There is a saying, “The only thing Permanent in life is Change”. This perfectly holds true to the world of
Computer Science & Engineering, where novel ideas become obsolete in the blink of an eye. My most
remarkable characteristic has been my curiosity to learn about new topics. According to recent research
cites, users of the internet generate 2.5 quintillion bytes of data each day, on average. With this data
burgeoning, we must be able to manage this data flawlessly so that we all can use the technologies that
we are used to now, since all of the major technologies rely on Data. I wish to pursue a Graduate degree
in Data Science, which will not only supplement my knowledge but also provide a strong platform for my
future endeavors.

I was introduced to the Data aspect of Computer Science through Database Management System course,
when I was in 3rd semester of my undergraduate Degree, Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science &
Engineering at Parul University. My professor showed me how to handle data using relational DBMS. I
found it very interesting that how a couple of lines of queries were able to generate an analyzed output
in SQL. This led me to choose “Data Mining & Warehousing” as my elective subject for 7th Semester of
my undergraduate degree and I learnt that how data can also be used for Business intelligence and
Decision making. After learning key concepts in Data Mining, I went on to choose “Big Data Analytics” to
be my subject for 8th Semester and I find this subject to be very interesting. To further enhance my
knowledge of Data, I decided to pursue a Graduate Degree in Data Science.

As a part of Prototype Designing course of 4th Semester, I developed a prototype of a web-based

software application along with my colleagues, which would enable hospitals and medical practitioners
to maintain a digital record of health records of all patients by storing all the relevant Data at a unified
storage. My Professor was really impressed by this project of mine and I got an “O” grade in Prototype
Designing Course. For my final year project, “Lung Disease Classification using CNN”, the primary
objective is to create a Web Application that helps patients to upload their X-Ray images and diagnose a
respiratory disease. This system would compare the user fed data with a database which contains x-rays
of humans with infected lungs. I am using key concepts of Data science such as Machine Learning and
complex algorithms such as CNNs to develop this project. My project would be an aid to mankind, as it
would minimize the cost and diagnosis time.

I believe that to learn Computer Science technologies, one needs practical experience. So, I took a part-
time internship at Vishawish Ventures, which is a startup based in Mumbai. I was positioned there as a
“Web Developer Intern” and subsequently, as “Python Developer Intern” for a total of 4 months. It was a
great learning experience which taught me the essentials of Web Development and its Data
Management in Backend and also how Python is used for Data Science analysis. After this internship, I
knew that I wanted to pursue Data Science as my career. Besides academics, active participation in a
wide range of extracurricular activities has ensured the all-round development of my personality.

Having acquired a solid foundation in the field of computer science through a rigorous undergraduate
program, at this point, I feel that I am ready to take up graduate studies in a more concentrated field of
Data Science. Rutgers is one of the leading technology University in the globe, it would certainly be the
ideal place to pursue my masters, as in future it would provide me desired job-spaces and opportunities

to rub and improvise my skills. I aspire to gain a competitive edge in this ever-growing area and became
a veteran in this industry. I do not want to limit myself by sticking to only a few technologies. I intend to
be updated with newer technologies.

The graduate program in Data Science offered by Rutgers University will undoubtedly provide me with
the right knowledge and experience to propel my career to the fullest extent. I have a interest in the
fields of Massive Data Mining & Learning and I wish to learn and research regarding it under the
guidance of Prof. Manish Parashar. I thoroughly went through his work and I really look forward to
working with him in the field of Data-science enabled Parallel Computing. The practical orientation of
your in-depth coursework and training opportunities will allow me to not only acquire a clear
understanding of the subject but also the adroitness to execute it. I am confident that your university
could award me with the power to carry forward my goals.
