Instructional Objectives
The students will be able to demonstrate form through chanting/body percussion/playing
instruments.
The students will chant Falling Snow with the correct words with at least one ostonato part
Procedure
Mind Capture - Motivation
“Who is ready for our first snowfall this year? I know I am. I actually think about snow all the
time, so much that I even talk about it every day… I’ll teach you what I say, so put your listening
ears on and keep this steady beat with me. Now listen to what I say…”
Sequence
Procedure –
1. Speak the chant Falling Now while patting a steady beat
2. Teach the chant by rote, one phrase – students echo, two phrases – students echo
3. Students speak entire chant while patting a steady beat.
4. While students are keeping the beat, chant ostinato part #1 (Floating, Falling)
5. Have all students chant ostinato part.
6. Teacher adds the poem to the students ostinato
7. Divide class into 2 groups – one speaks ostinato part, the other speaks the poem
8. Perform all together
9. Switch parts and perform the chant and ostinato.
10. Teach then can chant ostinato part #2 (White and shining!)
11. Have students chant ostinato #2.
12. Teacher adds the poem to the ostinato part.
13. Divide students into 2 groups – one speaks ostinato #2, the other speaks the poem
14. Divide students into 3 groups – ostinato #1 begins
15. add ostinato #2
16. add poem
17. Perform all together
18. Switch parts if time
19. Perform using new parts.
20. Add body percussion to each part's rhythm to prepare for instruments (#1- Pat. #2-Snap.#3-
Clap.)
21. Switch parts if time allows.
22. Perform with melody first (Chant and body percussion)
23. Add Ostonato #1 (Chant and Body Percussion)
24. Add Ostonato #2 (Chant and Body Percussion)
25. Remove chant and leave only body percussion
26. Add instruments to each part (#1 –Shakers; #2 –Metals; #3 –Woods)
Closure
Perform Falling Snow with an improvised form.
Assessment - Evaluation
The teacher will listen to hear the students chant/play the song with the correct words/rhythms
