BACKGROUND
Aney'S Kek Lapis Sarawak,Canopy and Catering is a company that produce the
Sarawak layer cake and provides canopy and catering for wedding ceremony. Basically each
company want the best for their company and in this case, the company want to improvise their
working style to increases the productivity of the Sarawak layer cake and reduce the costing at
the same time maintain the quality.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
To achieve the objectives of the company, they had face several issue that causes the difficulty
to the company which are high labour cost and lack of automation to produce Sarawak layer
cake.

First issue is regarding the high labour cost faced by the company. This company has
employ a huge amount number of worker to produce the Sarawak layer cake according to the
demand of the customer which are increasing from day to day and also due the lot of process
taken to finish the Sarawak layer cake. So due to the huge number of worker work in this
company, the company need to pay all the worker according to their scope of work and this
causes the labour cost is higher.

Second issue is about the company has lack of automation. All the work done by worker
are manually and take a longer time to finish the work. The company lack of machine such as
layering machine, tampering machine, cutting machine and wrapping machine. Due to the
finish product rely on the human capability, the result sometime not achieve the target causes
the losses to the company.

PROPOSED SOLUTION
Aney’S Kek Lapis Sarawak, Canopy & Catering is a small company selling Sarawak
Layer Cake and provided service on Canopy & Catering on wedding or small event.
Specialized in making Sarawak Layer Cake, this company has a wide customer requested from
several companies in Malaysia such as Giant, Tesco and bakeries.
So, the objective of the company stated is how they can increase the productivity to
achieve the demand from the customer. The daily productivity that they have is actually can
meet the demand of the customer but the additional order become the problem to the company.
Problem: Lack of automation to produce the Sarawak Layer Cake
Solution: We are suggesting that this company to invest some money on producing machines
that can be used in the cake baking process. So, the suggestion from the design engineer, semi-
auto machines on several process need to be build. The processes of cake baking that require
lot of times are wrapping, layering, tempering and cutting.
The semi-auto machines on all these processes will shorten the time of producing one pack of
layer cake. So, back to the objectives of the company, the productivity of the cake can be
increased by shorten the amount of time.
Problem: High labour cost
Solution: This problem also can be managed by building the machines. Instead of shorten the
amount of time, this suggestion also will easier the process of the cake baking. So, the easier
work will require less energy of workers. So, the amount of labour can be reduced due to the
less of work loaded.
All the process of this cake baking required a lot of time. For example, the process of
cutting the cake is so complicated. The picture below shows how the worker measuring the
length of the cake and divide it into several pieces using knife and ruler.

By using the suggested machine, we can use it to cut the cake in certain dimension accurately
and efficiently. So, no more ruler and knife needed.

Besides, the process of layering and tempering also processes which required lot of
time. As shown in the figure, the workers need to repeat the processes of layering, bake it in
oven, and tempering for 14 layers manually. So, with the machine, we can layering and
tempering the cake faster without many workers.

By understanding the concept of entrepreneurship, we provide the solution for this company.
As we knows, entrepreneurship is a dynamic process that involves change and creation by
exploiting the previous unexploited opportunities. By playing with the risk, creativity,
opportunity and pro-activeness, entrepreneurship is like a gamble for a person to make profit.
So, by taking our advice and proposed solution, this company take a risk to exploit the
opportunity and creativity to increase the profit they have. The proposed solution joined with
a good case study and source of work will generate better idea and more realistic. An idea
without a good study and knowledge will only led to another consequences that maybe can
affect to loss for the company. In business, a small mistake can be a big source of loss in making
money for the company.

CONCLUSION
As conclusion, the issues that this company faced in their business have been stated and the
solutions together with the recommendation have been find out by doing SWOT analysis. The
proposed solution is investing some money to get automated machine in baking cake.

Aney’S Kek Lapis Sarawak have several issue that they need to face because of the
increasing in demand by the customer. Based on the analysis that we investigated, the most
significant challenges that Aney’S Kek Lapis Sarawak faced are low on productivity, too many
workers, and lack of automation.

Apart from that, high labour cost can be solving by hired less worker and increase the
use of machine in making the cake. The recommendation from the issues arise on the company
are providing special training to the worker and also focus on the particular segment such as
layered cake that attract customers the most. By focusing on that, customer will not have to
wait for a certain long time to get their desired layered cake.

Some additional recommendation has been given to this company. The additional
recommendation for this company are listed below:-

1. Give a special training to their workers. This is because some of their workers were
not expert in the making of the Layered Cake so its take more time to make one
layered cake. Plus, they need to train the workers to use the machine that will be
build.
2. Finding a focus segment. For an example they can focus on the layered cake that
have high demand from the customer. So that they can produce more layered caked
that customer want than the other layered cake so that they can gain more profit.
