I- Aims
1- To provide the basic knowledge about commonly used groups of drugs affecting
different body systems and their implications in therapy of disease and health promotion
especially the analgesics, local anesthetics and drugs affecting bleeding.
2- To enable students to understand the safe use of drugs as regards adverse effects,
contraindications and drug interactions.

II- Intended learning outcomes (ILOs):


By the end of the course, students should be able to:
A- Knowledge and understanding:
1- Discuss the pharmacokinetic, dynamic and therapeutic action of different groups of
drugs affecting body systems.
2- Recognize the rational and general guidelines of the use of drugs in special population
such as pediatrics, pregnancy and lactation and in case of liver and kidney impairment.
3- Discuss the use of life saving drugs.

B- Practical skills:
4- Analyze the effect of drugs on biological tissues.
5- Identify the commonly used dosage forms of the drugs found in the market.
6- Perform different techniques of drug administration on special models.

C- Intellectual skills:
7- Identify the mechanism of drug action on scientific bases.
8- Predict drug responses at all levels of biological organization.
9- Choose the proper drug/s for the proper clinical situation.

D- General skills:
10- Use current I.T. for appropriate drug database to reach information about a specific
medication.
11- Appreciate the importance of life-long self-learning and show a strong commitment to it.
12- Respect ethics related to laboratory work.
13- Communicate properly with his/her teachers, colleagues and laboratory workers.
