Wellness Medium and Your Wellness Plan

1. What medium have you chosen? Please describe and/or attach/upload visual.
a. I have decided to choose a photo of me dancing. In this photo, I am doing a

contemporary dance in an open studio. I have just put on music and was

improvising the steps, moving my body in whatever way I felt and expressing my

feelings through my movements. Contemporary is my favorite style of dance and

it can portray any range of emotions or stories.

2. What does this medium represent to you? Why? Please describe why this is meaningful.
a. I have been dancing since I was three years old. Ever since that age, I realized that

dance was a way that I could express what I was feeling and thinking without

having to say a single thing. Sometimes I felt that I really wanted to share what

was going on in my mind, but I did not want others to know every little detail or

judge me on my situation. That is why dance became a safe space for me. I was

able to share a piece of me to the extent that I wanted. My body became my

words. I could put on any music to match my mood and completely let loose. I am

a worrier and I stress over everything, but at dance, I let all of that stress slip free.

I never was focused on what I needed to do next, my next assignment, or even the

next 20 minutes. I was able to be present in the moment, acknowledge how I felt,

and display that in any way I wanted. I could tell a story, and I did not need

anything more than myself and a little bit of space. Dance represents me because

it exposes my raw emotions in a completely nonjudgmental way. I can be myself

or I can be any other character I please. I feel free and unrestricted when I dance,

and that brings me more joy than almost anything in the world. It has always been

and always will be my emotional outlet.

3. Post your personal wellness commitment statement and plan to care for YOU below. Be
specific.
a. My commitment to myself is to go to at least one, scheduled dance class for at

least an hour a week. This way, I can dedicate at least one hour to let out all of my

emotions so that they do not get bottled up inside and increase my stress. I also

want to commit to taking a five-minute dance break, even if it is just in my room,

any time that I start to become stressed or frustrated. This way, I can take myself

out of the stressful moment, get out my emotions in a healthy and active way, and

hopefully feel better when I return to my task. I want to commit to taking care of

myself, physically and emotionally.
