Lesson Plan in Science 8 (MATTER)

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

A. identify the anatomy of the periodic table


B. state the importance of periodic table to mankind
C. point out and explain the properties of each group in the periodic table through oral
presentation

The teacher will recall the lesson about the development of the modern periodic table of
elements. The students will paste some pictures on the timeline posted on the board.

5. Motivation

The teacher will ask the students:

Have you ever seen the whole universe?

A. ACTIVITY

The teacher will divide the class into four groups. The students will watch two video
clips about the anatomy of the periodic table. They will be given guide questions for brainstorming.

B. ANALYSIS

What are periods? groups? What does it represent?

What are the groups/families in the periodic table? How will you describe the properties
of each group/family in the periodic table?

What are metals? Nonmetals? Metalloids?

How elements are arranged in the periodic table?

C. APPLICATION

Each group will be given periodic table template. They will be tasked to label and color
the given template.

D.ABSTRACTION

1. What are the groups/families in the periodic table of elements?

2. How will you describe the arrangement of elements in the periodic table?

3. Why do you think periodic table of element is important to humanity?


IV ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION

Performance Task: ORAL PRESENTATION (By Group)

Each group will be asked to point out and explain the anatomy of periodic table specially the
properties of each group through oral presentation using the downloaded dynamic periodic
table.

Rubric for grading the performance of students is attached herewith.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Research about the practical application of at least 5 elements in the periodic table.
