Equality in Islam:

 Are men and women equal? No.


 Are men superior to women? No.
 Are women superior to men? No.
Rationale: Men and Women are mutually superior to each other. They have been
assigned different roles by Allah.
Men and Women are equal:
 Spirituality: Their importance based on taqwa is the same. The deeds will be
equally rewarded. They can have the same place in Jannah.
 Knowledge: Women can acquire and transmit knowledge just like men can.
Hadith narrated by a Man or a Woman is of equal value.
Men are Superior:
 Economic Activities as they have to support their family, so they are the
managers of the house. You have to pay for your wife’s necessities and you can’t
ask her for her money.
 Decision making authority of the house.
 Jihad is for Men only
Women are Superior:
 Mother has a higher status than then father as the Prophet gave first three levels
of importance to the mother, and the fourth to the father.
 Heaven lies at the feet of Mother.
 Daughter is considered to be a blessing, and one who raises two daughters will
be protected from the hellfire on the Day of Judgment.
Christianity: Women are second degree creations and can only be a nun.
Hindu: Women are fourth degree creations and cannot posses spirituality.
Buddhists: Monks cannot interact with women. There only attain final spirituality when
reborn as a male.
Inheritance:
Women get half of what a men gets? Is it true? Not completey.
First Case: Man/Woman dies leaving behind parents, spouse, children and siblings.
Daughter gets half of as much as Son.
 Son has to support his wife, parents and children so gets 2 shares.
 Woman is not supposed to support the family unless willingly so she gets 1 share
and it’s her own money.
Second Case: Man/Woman dies leaving behind Parents and Children. Woman and Man
gets equal.
 Children get 1 share and Parents get one-third share.
 It is personal wealth for all, as they don’t have to support anyone.
Third Case: Man/Woman dies leaving behind Parents. Woman gets double to what a
man gets.
 A woman won’t have support system so she gets double amount, which is
responsible personal wealth.

Testimony:
First Case: Women’s testimony is half in financial issues, because they are not very
much of a concern to a women.
Second Case: Women’s testimony is the only option in family laws such as birth of a
dead child, because they are highly related to women.
Third Case: Women’s testimony is equal in Islamic issues, such as Hadith transmission.

Can a man hit his wife?


 Darabahuna: Hitting as light as with a miswak. In situations such as adultery,
and not minor situations such as untasty food.

1. Talk to your wife about the problem


2. Remain silent
3. Separation of beds – creating distance
4. Bring an arbitrator
5. Hit her – light beating with miswak or like (Not torture)
6. Divorce (No matter if jokingly or in anger)
