REMEMBER: To gain the respect and admiration of your friends and classmates, be well-groomed.
Knowing what is proper to wear for a certain occasion is a must. To be well-groomed, you must keep
your clothes clean, well-pressed, and in good condition.

PROPER SELECTION OF CLOTHING:


1. OCCASION – Plan your wardrobe such that several of your clothes may be worn for different
occasions by simply mixing and matching them and changing your accessories.
1. School Wear – simple, durable, comfortable and easy to launder.
2. Home Wear – Girls may wear skirts, blouses, shirts, shorts, slacks, or dusters. Boys may put on
shorts, T-shirts or Sando.
For sleeping, nightgowns or pajamas may be worn, or shorts and lose shirts. They should be
loose so you can move freely.
3. Sportswear – The two types are those worn when participating in games and those worn
when watching games.
Participating in games – shorts, cycling clothes, or jogging pants and t-shirt that allow you to
move freely. Bathing suits for girls and swimming trunks for boys for swimming.
4. Church Wear – Simple clothes with becoming accessories. Avoid tight-fitting dress and a
low neckline for girls; pants and t-shirts or polo are appropriate for boys.
5. Party Wear – more stylish than school wear. Party clothes are made of expensive fabrics
such as lace and silk. They also have striking trimmings.

2. AGE – For young girls and boys, colorful clothes are becoming, with warm colors like orange and
red of different shades, to give the impression of youth and gaiety. . For older people, cool colors like
blue and green are appropriate.

3. TIME AND WEATHER CONDITION – Wear clothes that are black and shiny and have bold designs in
the evening; simple and light-colored during the day.
During summer, wear white or cool colors such as pink and blue.
During the rainy season, wear warm colors such as yellow and red. Wear thick clothes during
cold weather and thin sleeveless clothes during warm weather.

OTHER FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED WHEN CHOOSING CLOTHES:

5. FABRIC DESIGN – the clothes design must be appropriate for your build. If you are short, wear
longer dresses with vertical lines. Tiny prints for shorted people.
6. PERSONALITY - must suit your personality. The athletic, classy, conservative, or modern types favor
different styles of clothing.

CARE FOR CLOTHES: Great care for your clothes must be given for they affect your personal
appearance.
1. Keep your clothes clean, well-pressed, in good condition, and free from stain and tear.
2. Missing buttons, snaps, or any other fasteners must be replaced at once.
3. Ripped hems must be repaired. Tears should be darned.

A. LAUNDERING CLOTHES – the process of washing, drying, and ironing clothes.


Steps in laundering;
1. Sort clothes.
2. Wet the clothes in clear water to soften and remove most of the dirt clinging to them.
3. Rub the white garments with soap one at a time.
4. Rinse the white garments and soap them for a second time. Bleach and leave under the sun if
possible.
5. Wash colored garments in the soapy water you used to launder the white garments for the
second time, but do not bleach the colored clothes.
6. Rinse the clothes two or three times in clear water to wash off the soap.
7. Hang all colored garments to dry in a shaded area.
8. Rinse the bleached white clothes.
9. Soap them once more and rinse.
10. Hang the white clothes under the sun.
B. IRONING CLOTHES
1. Prepare the iron. Wipe it and run it several times on a piece of clean rag to make sure that its flat
surface is clean.
2. If using a flat iron with the automatic regulator, set the regulator correctly. If none, start with a
warm iron and let it heat gradually until its temperature is just right for the fabric.
3. Press and iron each piece beginning with the wrong side, then turn the clothes.
4. Iron the clothes until they are smooth.
5. Hang them for a while before folding and keeping them in your closet or cabinet.

C. KEEPING CLOTHES
1. Clothes should be folded neatly.
2. Put the same items together. Pile them with the smooth edge facing you.
3. Put the under wears on the shelves of your wardrobe or in big, clean boxes with proper labels.
4. Pull out the clothes you need carefully from the pile. Keep only the clean ones in the cabinet.
5. Hang used clothes like uniforms that may be used again.

THREADING THE MACHINE:
A. UPPER THREADING – important parts:
1. Spool Pin

3. Thread take-up
4. Needle
UPPER THREADING STEPS:
1. Put the spool of the thread on the spool holder then put the thread through the hole in the first
thread guide.
2. Bring the thread under the slit (opening) on the side of the second thread guide.
3. Bring the thread around the thread guide and down.
4. Pull the thread between the two round pieces of metal, or the tension.
5. Bring the thread around the tension, pulling it up through the thread guide.
6. Put the thread through the hole in the thread take-up from right to left.
7. Bring the thread down and put it through the next thread guide.
8. Pull the thread guide from right to left.
9. Thread the needle in the proper direction. Pull about 10 cm. of thread through the eye of the
needle.

B. THREADING THE BOBBIN


Machine bobbin – is a small, round object that fits into the lower part of the sewing machine. It holds
the second set of thread that interlocks, one stitch at a time, with the thread from the spool on the
head of the sewing machine.

STEPS IN THREADING THE CONVENTIONAL BOBBIN:


1. While holding the balance wheel with the left hand, loosen the large center screw by twisting it
toward you with your right hand.
2. Put the spool of thread on the bobbin spool pin.
3. Pull the thread through the bobbin thread guide.
4. Fill the bobbin into place on the bobbin winder and put the thread from the inside out through
one of the holes along the side of the bobbin.
5. Push the bobbin winder into fill position.
6. Holding onto the end of the thread, slowly start the machine and fill the bobbin. The bobbin
winder will automatically release the bobbin when it is filled.
