In 2017, the American college of pediatricians led by Michelle Cretella testified for the hearing

of the Privacy Act (SB 6). This was after the Texas Senate passed the bill which required

individuals to use restrooms according to the gender represented in their birth certificates. From

Cretella’s perspective, transgender politics “have taken Americans by surprise, and caught some

lawmakers off guard.” The American college of pediatricians argues that the transgender

ideology does not only affect the people’s laws but also the lives of children.

The testimony memo by the American college of pediatricians outlines that gender identity

defies science and threatens the well-being of children. The organization thus strives to defend

the people’s rights concerning sexual identity conflicts placing its foundation on science and

medical ethics. Recently, the nature of gender identity is promoted as normal even by the

medical community which is contrary to the past when it was cared for as a mental illness.

In the memo, there is the outline of the new normal. The new normal is a situation that is created

in both normal life and psychiatry where people who persistently insist on the contrary of their

real gender are considered delusional and usually ignored. Public institutions such as the media

have embraced the perception of the new normal whereby both the legal systems and majority of

national medical organizations are recommending it. However, the notion that some people are

born transgender is flawed. Cretella, however has a different explanation. She says that although

there are some human traits acquired from birth, most of the traits portrayed by humans are

subjects to the influence of their DNA. Therefore, the behaviors of all humans are determined by

nature and nurture.

The testimony memo also does not approve the use of puberty blockers for gender dysphoria.

Puberty blockers have successfully managed to treat medical disorder (precocious puberty) in

children. However, the method is not safe for children with gender dysphoria but physiologically
normal. The use of puberty blockers in such children may result to a decrease in bone

mineralization which may consequently increase the risk of bone fractures to the young adult.

Boys may also be exposed to the risk of testicular cancer, obesity, and other psychological and

development impairment. For instance, there have been several cases of memory abnormalities

among adult women who received blockers for gynecologic reasons.

Suicide is said to be the direct inevitable result of withholding upon alterations by a gender-

dysphoric child. People who do not endorse the transition condemn gender-dysphoric children to

suicide. However, there is no evidence that lack of affirmation is one of the causes of suicide

among children. Despite the campaign of transition affirmation, majority of children end up

being happy with their sex after puberty. Suicide is mainly committed by people diagnosed with

mental ailments. Therefore, lack of affirmation does not contribute to suicide by gender-

dysphoric children.

It is worth noting that some of the professionals use the belief of transgender from birth to cover

their massive and illegitimate experiments on children experiencing psychological disorders,

most of which resolve soon after puberty. It is therefore important that leaders and other people

join hands to take action against what is happening to children.
