NARATIVE REPORT OF THE FIELDTRIP

Title of activity: Seminar

1. Objective
We are doing this seminar and fieldtrips is for us as a student to practice and have an experience

how to arrange one seminar and fieldtrips and how to coordinate with a company or industry for having

a seminar and fieldtrips. Important is what do we need to do in one seminar and fieldtrips, the step or

things that we need to do of achieve in a seminar and fieldtrips, and the way how to ask for the company

or industry for conduct one seminar and fieldtrips. And it can be a good provision for us when we apply

for a job, if we face a same situation it will not be a big problem for us because we already have an

experience before. In this activity we have a seminar about Optical Distribution Network that give us

knowledge about networking that using optical cable. In the Seminar that held at Main Campus A401

of Angeles University Foundation, this was organized by our group so what that we did to achieve this

Seminar, first of all we coordinate with our professor how to make a deal with the Speaker for one

seminar, and then one of our group contact with the speaker that he know and at that time the speaker

agree and the next is set the day for the seminar, the date is we just depend on the spiker to choose one

of his free time and the we are having our seminar and that all, we were having our seminar with

successful and joy.

2. Target Group
This Seminar that are having at Angeles University Foundation about the Optical Distribution

Network, it organized for the graduated student of Electronic and Communication Engineering fifth year

with hope that with this seminar can take knowledge from there or can get experience on how to work in

telecom in the future. The benefit of this seminar that we held in Angeles University Foundation is for us

as a student because the propose of the seminar is for the student to having experience or knowledge about

network that using fiber optic cable that is using in Converts and with this knowledge and experience can

be good weapon for us as a student if one day we want to apply for a job in telecom especially telecom that

using fiber optic at lease we already have comprehensive a little about what to work in the telecom and

good step for the Filipino Student that they want to apply for telecom in Converts one day they have a big

opportunity because maybe of the Engineer in converts that may recognize them it will be easy for them

that to accept to work there. Work in telecom it was related to our course as an ECE so it was a good idea

for having our seminar it will help us when we want to work in telecom in the future and with this activity

its very helpful for the student because can have an experience on working in the field of telecom, and

during our seminar Engineer introduced to us the Optical Distribution Network like the type of fiber optic,

there are different type and texture of fiber optic. So it was very helpful for us as a student, when one day

we want to work there as a telecom at lease we already have known some function and different type of the

fiber optic.

3. Description of methodology

Method that used for this activity are: first we contact engr. Jonathan, to help us for fulfill our

requirement to be a source speaker on the seminar. This seminar is joint with the CPEs student.

This method is appropriate because it can helps us learn how to organize a group or a company

in the future. It also help us to know about the work in a company.

4. Description of activity

The seminar entitled Optical distribution Network, was held by resource speaker Engr.

Jonathan Reineir L. Solis, he is a Telecom Engineer in Converge ICT Solution Inc. Converge

ICT commonly referred to as Converge, also known in Pampanga as ComClark, is a major

provider of telecommunication and cable television services in the Philippines. It operates fiber

optic broadband networks, cable television marketed as Air Cable, and cable internet, marketed

as Air Internet, in the country. In this seminar Engr. Solis was introduced and explained to the

students about what fiber optic cable is, and how it is work. An optical fiber is a flexible,

transparent fiber made by drawing glass (silica) or plastic to a diameter slightly thicker than

that of a human hair.

5. Analysis and evaluation of the Seminar

Since the objective of the Seminar to give an information to the participant regarding the

work at the telecom, especially at the Converge Telecom, and how the field engineers are distribute

optical to the subscriber. Also how those engineers handled when there is a trouble or called system

down. With this, participant and speaker were pro active because speaker were delivered the

information well enough, and ask sensible question to the participant and they were able to answer.
 In telecommunication system, down time is most important to considered, because its

regarding the lost in term of business. Company will experience high lost in is the downtime is

longer. Therefore, to avoid this, supporting equipment is required to support the system to transmit

signal to the user or customers.

6. Management of the Seminar

This activity was able to conducted because of the collaboration of Group leader and the

members. Also with collaboration of our classmate in electronics student, this activity was able to

realized in well timing

This activity was take 2 hours and there were a lot of interaction between the participants

and resource speaker from the Converge Telecommunication Inc. as the source speakers as

questions, participants try to answer base on what they speaker have explained before

7. Suggestions

This activity was conducted as part to requirement for graduating students to accomplished.

Though this activity going well because source speakers were able to discussed the topic in the

seminar well enough.

This kind of activity must be continue in the future because this could as part of training fo

the student to apply in their career.
