4. ATF LEVEL CHECK
4-1. A4AF/A4BF/A4CF/A5CF/F4EK/F4A4/F4A5/A5GF/A5HF/FRA
1) Place the shift lever in ‘N’ position and then confirm that the engine is running at normal idle speed and
parking brake is applied.
2) After the A/T is warmed up sufficiently [ATF temperature: 70~80°C (158~176°F)], for example by 10 minutes
usual driving, move the shift lever to all positions and then place it in ‘N (Or park)’ position.
3) Confirm that the ATF level is in “HOT” range on the ATF level gauge. If the ATF is insufficient, add the specified
ATF through the ATF filling port. But if the ATF is excessive, drain it through the ATF drain port.
NOTE
The difference of ATF volume between the upper and lower limit lines of ‘HOT’ range is as below.
4) If the ATF level is checked in cold condition [ATF temperature: 20~30°C (68~86°F)], add the ATF to ‘C (COLD)’
line and then recheck the ATF level according to the step 2).
5) For reference, the graphs for relation of ATF level to ATF temperature in oil pan are as below.
※ Vertical line: ATF level, Horizontal line: ATF temperature in oil pan

2) Start the engine.
CAUTION
Do not step on the brake and accelerator simultaneously when raising the ATF temperature.
3) Confirm that the Oil Temperature Sensor (OTS) of A/T is between 50 ~ 60°C (122 ~ 140°F) using the GDS.
4) Move the shift lever in the order of ‘P→R→N→D→N→R→P’, keeping each shift position for more than 2 seconds.
6) Lift a vehicle and then remove the ATF level plug on the lower side of A/T valve body cover.
At this time, the vehicle must be at a level state.
7) If the ATF flows out in a thin stream, the ATF level is correct. Finish the service procedure and then
retighten the ATF level plug.
NOTE
- Replace the gasket of an ATF level plug with a new one.
- Tightening torque for ATF level plug: 34.3~44.1 N.m (3.5~4.5 kgf.m, 25.3~32.5 lb.ft)
① Remove the drain plug and then reinstall it after draining all the existing ATF.
② Fill 5L of ATF and then check the ATF level according to the above ATF level check procedure.
NOTE
- Replace the gasket (P/No: 4532339000) of an ATF drain plug with a new one.
- Tightening torque for ATF drain plug: 38.3~48.1 N.m (3.9~4.9 kgf.m, 28.2~35.4 lb.ft)
3/6
1. ATF filling plug, 2. ATF level plug, 3. ATF drain plug
CAUTION
When adding the ATF using a ATF funnel, there is no limitation for
ATF funnel capacity (A) but if the inner diameter (B) of the ATF
funnel injection tube is large, ATF may be able to overflow A
during the ATF addition. Therefore, it is recommended to use the
ATF funnel whose inner diameter of the tube does not exceed Φ5.
4-3. F21-450
4/6
1) Remove the plug 1 (C) on the upper side of an A/T
and then add 400cc of ATF.
C
2) Start the engine.
3) Move the shift lever from "P" to "D", then from "D"
to "P", keeping each shift position for more than
2 seconds with foot braking.
6) If the dropped ATF volume is within the range in the graph below, the ATF level is correct.
5/6
2) Place the shift lever in ‘P’ position.
4) If ATF does not drop through the plug 2 after removing it, add ATF through the plug 1 until the ATF flows out
of the plug 2.
6) Tighten the plug 2 [Tightening torque: 5.9~8.8 N.m (0.6~0.9 kgf.m, 4.3~6.5 lb.ft)].
8) Move the shift lever from "P" to "D", then from "D" to "P", keeping each shift position for more than 2 seconds
with foot braking.
10) Remove the plug 2. If ATF flows in a thin stream, confirm that the ATF temperature is between 50 ~ 60°C (122 ~
140°F) at engine idling and on CAN signal and then reinstall the plug 2. If fails, stop the engine and then restart
the ATF level adjustment from step 5).
NOTE
- Replace the O-ring of removed plug 1/2 with a new one.
- Tightening torque for plug 1: 23.5~54.9 N.m (2.4~5.6 kgf.m, 17.4~40.5 lb.ft)
- Tightening torque for plug 2: 5.9~8.8 N.m (0.6~0.9 kgf.m, 4.3~6.5 lb.ft)
