From 2000 year, the economic evolution has affected a big impact around the world, but the

international companies have been impacted in their economic flow. Nowadays, The CFO have

been the most relevant protagonists in companies, managing the financial situation and take

care for the value of each company. The intention of this text is to approach which are the

challenges that faces, their current and future abilities, and the tools what they need

In the world’s today the greatest challenges are the collision of the globalization in each country

or continent, all is connected. Consequently, the companies implement more protagonist to

CFO’s which, established the financial basis to protect the company of slowing growth, rising

interest rates and fluctuating global currencies, geopolitical factors and of course the

dependency of the countries in export and he influences in the exchange rates.

The people who are CFOs need abilities to understand the movement of international scenarios

that can affect the company and for this, is necessary skills. Therefore, we must differentiate

two groups: soft skills, which help the CFO in communication, and “influencing” – the most

important skills for those years -. On the other hand, we found the hard skills, - the new main

protagonist -, “risk management”; and the most important “the strategic thinking” to predict

the future scenarios and develop plans.

Near to end, we need to understand exactly the competences of the skills for the future. The

first one is the most crucial in these years, “strategic thinking,”, what actions the organization

needs to take to survive or become successful, the importance to prevent bad scenarios is

hopeful; accompanied by “analysis and advisory skill”, the analytical skill support the main

capacity and localize areas whose efficient can be get better, according to this; “risk

management”, evaluate the probability and implications for the organization; “communication
and influencing”, effectively in both cases about saying the right things in the most convincing

and credible way; for the last, “people management skill”, to delegated functions of CFOs to

the teams, made in them developed strong financial skills to contribute for their training and

increase technical competences; of course analytical skills to everyone for support CFOs

In conclusion, the abilities of CFOs have an obligation of constantly develop and changing of

course for the global trend, the market has being in interrelationted of external factors, which

affect the countries. Also, the hard skills will have more relevancy than soft skills, to prevent

awful negative impacts in companies: “strategic thinking” is the future of CFOs. For that is

necessary to be more proactive to stay in equal conditions and understand the market trends.
