450 Platform Release 16.0/16.0.0.1
Information
Introduction
This document provides information for 450 Platform Series System Release 16.0 and 16.0.0.1.
16.0.0.1 is a bug fix replacement for 16.0. Any customer planning to upgrade to 16.0 or 16.0.0.1
should upgrade to 16.0.0.1. Any customers that have already deployed 16.0 and are experiencing
issues are encouraged to upgrade from 16.0 to 16.0.0.1. These release notes include the deltas in
16.0.0.1 on top of the full set of 16.0 release notes
Software updates for Cambium products are available from:
https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files

System Release 16.0 adds support for:

l PMP 450m features:
n 3 GHz PMP 450m AP
n 5 GHz Tx power boost upto 48 dBm (Where regulatory limits allow)
n UL MU-MIMO support for PMP 450m
n AUX port support for the PoE feature and bridging
n DC LPU support for PMP 450m
l Other features:
n PTP 450b support
n GUI configuration to change an SM to Backhaul and vice versa in PTP 450b/450i
n Co-location with LTE devices
l Following Channel Bandwidths supported by the 3 GHz PMP 450m AP in 16.0
n 5 MHz, 10 MHz, 15 MHz, 20 MHz, 30 MHz, 40 MHz
n 30 MHz and 40 MHz are only supported for 2.5 ms frame sizes
n 7 MHz BW is currently not supported on 3 GHz 450m

DES and AES-256 Encryption

Release 15.2 introduced enhanced over-the-air data encryption using an AES-256, which requires a
purchasable feature key to enable. Over-the-air data encryption using DES is no longer supported,
only AES-128 and AES-256. None of this functionality is new to 16.0 but the information is being
repeated for customers who are upgrading directly from 15.1.5 to 16.0.
An AP running DES on 15.1.5 will have an encryption setting of NONE after upgrading to 16.0. SMs
that were configured for DES will no longer be using any encryption; however, if the AP is changed
to AES and rebooted, the SMs will automatically register using AES encryption.
l A device with 15.2 or later software release can communicate with a pre-15.2 device using AES-
128.
l An AP with 15.2 or later software release can operate with a mixed sector of SMs (some using
AES-128 and some using AES-256).
l Devices operating at DES before an upgrade from 15.1.5 will operate with no encryption after
upgrade.
l PMP 430 SMs with 15.2 software release operate with no encryption.

5 | pmp-2418_002v000 Cambium 450 Platform | Release Notes

In the UI, under Home > General Status > Device information, the AP displays both its capability
and its encryption configuration.

Recommendations for upgrading DES sectors:

l Upgrade AP first: all links operate with no encryption after upgrade
l Upgrade all SMs: as the AP no longer has DES configuration, the SMs can operate with no
encryption without being stranded

7 | pmp-2418_002v000 Cambium 450 Platform | Release Notes

DC LPU support for 450m AP
This release introduces DC lightning protection units (LPU) with 3 GHz PMP 450m AP to support
the higher power consumption need for the radio.

5 GHz PTP 450b

This release introduces new 5 GHz 450b models that support PTP mode (BHM/BHS) as well as
Subscriber mode.

GUI configuration for SM/Backhaul

The configuration of PTP keyed 450b/450i devices (i.e. the new 450b models & PTP 450i) can be
changed to BHM/BHS and vice versa through the GUI.
The new 5 GHz 450b models are supplied defaulted to subscriber mode.

Co-Location with LTE

In the 3 GHz band, the 450 family of products can be co-located with LTE devices. To align the
frames to 450 frames, select Disable in the Co-located LTE Frame Configuration Option drop-
down menu of the Radio Configuration on the AP.
By selecting any of the LTE frame configurations options, the frame start will shift to align to the
selected option. This feature is only available if 5 ms frame is selected. Enabling this feature
simply shifts the frame start to the LTE frame start. Other frame configuration parameters (duty
cycle, max range, number of contention slots) must be selected correctly to avoid overlap of Tx
and Rx times in the two systems. To verify that the selected parameters allow colocation, you can
use the PMP-LTE co-location tool. (https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/colocationtool/).

Multiple port VID and MAC address Mappings

16.0/16.0.0.1 adds three VSA’s to the AAA Radius Dictionary to allow these MAC address
mappings to be pushed from RADIUS server if a customer prefers to do this:
Priority is optional , if used , it has to be the first VSA in the tuple.
Following are the Vendor Specific attribute:

VSA Name VSA ID Type Description

Cambium-Canopy- 52 integer Priority (optional)

PortMap-Priority

Cambium-Canopy- 53 integer Vlan ID for Port Mapping

PortMap-VLANID

Cambium-Canopy- 54 string Mac Address for corresponding VLAN

PortMap-MacAddr ID for port mapping

Other VSA's can be used interchangeable , there is no order but it has to be in pair.
In free RADIUS server, these VSAs can be configured in the following way:
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-Priority=3,
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-VLANID+=77,
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-MacAddr+="D4-81-D7-D3-50-FA",

In the GUI, when VSA is applied it can viewed in the Configuration > VLAN > Active Configuration
page.

10 | pmp-2418_002v000 Cambium 450 Platform | Release Notes

For multiple mapping, this can be done in the following way:
#Pair 1
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-VLANID=21,
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-MacAddr="0a0b0c0d0e0f",
#Pair 2
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-Priority=0,
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-VLANID+=77,
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-MacAddr+="0f0e0d0c0b0a",
#Pair 3
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-Priority+=5,
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-VLANID+=87,
Cambium-Canopy-PortMap-MacAddr+="ff0e0d0c0b0a",

Note:
For customers using the port VID and MAC address mappings, it is advised that both AP and SM should be
running 16.0.0.1. Additionally, if RADIUS is enabled, please configure Bandwidth Configuration Source to
'Authentication+SM'.

cnMaestro
cnMaestro may also be used to manage Cambium devices. cnMaestro version 1.6.3 is compatible
with existing hardware as well as the new 3 GHz 450m for existing functionality. However, the new
cnMaestro 2.0.0, version, expected to be released with PMP’s 16.0 release provides additional
support – including cnMaestro support for “link test with Multiple LUID’s” in both the UL and DL
direction. This allows a user to test MU-MIMO via link test from cnMeastro. See the cnMaestro
release notes for more information. For additional information, see the cnMaestro website at:

11 | pmp-2418_002v000 Cambium 450 Platform | Release Notes

http://www.cambiumne16.0/16.0.0.1 adds 3 VSA’s to the AAA Radius Dictionary to allow these MAC
address mappings to be pushed from RADIUS server if a customer prefers to do
this:tworks.com/products/software-tools/cnmaestro

Note:
Hotfix has been posted on Dec 4th on the Cambium support site that supports all 16.0 MIB changes.

Canopy MIB
The Cambium Enterprise MIB (Management Information Base) consists of 7 MIB definition files
and supports SNMP access to Canopy modules. The MIB files are available for download from:
https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/pmp450/

MIB files are used by Network Management Systems and Element Management Systems, such as
the Wireless Manager system to support a host of surveillance, monitoring, control, and
operational tasks.
If you are using an SNMP network management system (NMS) or element management system
(EMS) other than Wireless Manager: Load the MIBs per the instructions for your NMS or EMS.

Note:
When loading the MIB files:
l First, load the standard MIB files
l Then, load the Radio-specific MIB files

Some NMSs are not sensitive to order, but some require a specific loading order to build a MIB
tree. Loading in the recommended order avoids these issues.
