INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background

Public speaking or speaking in front of an audience is a capabilities that

not only must be possessed by leaders, but all community leader. The ability of
public speaking is an added value which is very important for us both in career
and study. Public speaking can be learned but many people don’t want to learn,
because they think that public speaking comes from people who have already had
the talent to speak from birth. This assumption is wrong because in fact Public
Speaking can be learned.

In addition to study the theory of Public Speaking, We also have to study

its Influencess to add our insight into the development of public speaking from
time to time. Basically, there are still many of us who still don’t know what the
influences of Public Speaking are.

 What are the influences of Public Speaking ?
 What are the important points in Public Speaking ?
 What are the factors that influence speaking ability ?
 What are the speech methods?
 What are the tips for being success in deivering speech ?

MAIN BODY

2.1 The Infuences of Public speaking

Public Speaking is a skill to speak in front of many people, conveying

messages that can be understood and trusted by the Public Listeners. Public
Speaking can have big impact in our life, such as (Hamilton,2003: 3) :

a. Developing our personality

If we always do Public Speaking we don’t need to do it every discussing
time in front of a lot of people, both in the work world and in our family
environment. We also can convey our ideas to others more effectively. Today
many companies are asking job applicants to make the work program proposal
and will be presented later. The idea which you have been stated in that proposal
will be heard interesting or not is depending on how you speak in the presentation.

b. Affecting the world around us

All of the changes that occur in society often started from a person’s idea
which is transmitted to other people. If we have Public Speaking skills, We can
more easily to influence other people to accept and implement our ideas, which
produce changes in to the group.

c. Improving our career

The ability to influence others, including our superiors or our boss can
make our working will be better and even if our colleagues see us good at
speaking, They will see us as the people who have high credibility to change the
promotion will be wide opened. It same with the brand ambassadors of certain
brand, In the middle competition company nowadays many companies need a
great ambassador for their brand namely the one who has good Public Speaking
skills.

 Public speaking is one of skills that has big power to vhange the world
simply and with non-violent way. Public Speaking skill will also make us
excellent than others. As examples, We always see in media, especially on
television shows Public Speaking political situation such as during the election
campaigns president and his vice or also in parliamentary meeting. Not only that
Public Speaking also used in the health sector when we act as a Posyandu guider,
or in environment field when we act as activist who invite the university students
to do something usefull, So We have changed the world for better.

2.2 Important Points in Public Speaking

There are some main points that must be paid attention, namely :

 Effective Qualities of Speeches

In general, an effective speech delivers a message that makes sense to the
listener and conveys the ideas of the speaker. As a rule of thumb for the classroom
speaker, “effective” means having the intended result in the minds of the listeners.
In other word, if the speaker wants the audience to have a strong emotional
reaction, the speech was effective if some audience members weep at the sad
partsor smile at the amusing ssections. Professional comedients are effective when
their audiences laugh.

 Effective Public Speaking

As classroom speaker, we can only measure the effectiveness of our
speech in two ways : First, What sort of grade and feedback might be provided by
the instructor and Second, When we direct an audience to some immediate and
measurable action.

  Models
One way to understand the process of communication is to look at a moder
or a drawing that represents the process. In order to talk about the various
elements of human communication, We’ll use a model that help us understand
how the role of the speaker and listener influence the message even if everyonein
the class sees him – or herself as an exception.

 When camera rolling action

Student participation in a Public Speaking class via disteance delivery will
involve doing nearly everything in an identical fashion to those coming to campus
for a face-to-face class. You will be constructing your speech the same way, doing
research, writing outlines, and presenting your speech in front of an audience. The
only difference is that your instructor will not be in the room when you deliver the
speech.

 Summary
Simply standing up in front of a group of people and talking does not
constitute giving a speech. We’ll be looking at the formal elements that are
necessary to become more credible seaker, tomlearn more about your audience to
meet their needs, and how to construct a speech that will make sense to your
audience.

2.3 Some Factors That Influence Public Speaking Ability

 Voice, If you want to give a positive impression, So you should speak

clearly, In order to avoid wrong undersatnding that can make the situation not
conducive enough. And the power of your voice should be in the middle not to
loud and not to slow.
 Expression and Body Gesture, Speeaking must be balanced with face
Expression and mimicry to make the audience more interesting and convincing.

  Speaking Model, This point is how to bring material when the
conversation takes place.
 Many vocabularies insight.
 Self confident and not nervous.

2.4 Speech Methods

Based on Jalaludin Rahmad (1999) dividessppeech into four :

1. Impromtu Method/ Unprepared.
Speech by this method, is a speech made without preparation or done
suddenly.
2. Manuscript Method
The Manuscript speech is a speech by reading the script or full text speech,
Such as Speech at official events.
3. Memoriter Method
This speech method is marked by memorization. After the script is written,
memorized then delivered, Such as Participants in speech contest.
4. Extempore Method
Speech by this method is characterized by the existence of a concept in the
form of main points to be delivered.

2.5 Some Tips For A Success Speech

Many speech experts provide tips or technique to be able successful

speech. According to Sir Winston Churchil (Prime English Minister) these are
must be done by an orator, namely :
1. Strong and impressive opening.
2. A dominant theme.
3. Complete and good gramatically.
4. Using some analogies and ilustrations.
5. Interesting closing.

3.1 Conclusion

Many people consider that speaking in Public are a skill that is important in
our daily life especially in working world. Interview with some Public relations
showing that Public Speaking is a skill that must be owned by everyone. And it
has so many positive influences or impacts that can make our life better.
