D.O.A PART A D.O.S

Q1. In a four link mechanism, the dimensions of links are as under:

AB = 50 mm, BC = 66 mm, CD = 56 mm and AD = 100 mm. At the instant when DAB = 600 the
link AB has an angular velocity of 10.5 radian per second in the counter clockwise direction.
Determine

1. The velocity of point C

2. The velocity of point E on the link BC when BE = 40 mm.

3. The angular velocity of links BC and CD

4. The velocity of an offset point F on the link BC if BF = 45 mm, CF = 30 mm and BCF

is read clockwise.

5. The velocity of an offset point G on the link CD if CG = 24 mm, DG = 44 mm and DCG

is read clockwise.

6. The velocity of rubbing at pins A, B, C, and D. The radi of the pins are 30, 40, 25 and
35 mm respectively.

Q2. The configuration diagram of a wrapping machine is given in fig1. Determine the velocity of
point P on the bell-crank lever 6 if crank 2 rotates at ω2 rad/s.
Q3. A whitworth quick return mechanism has been shown in fig3. The dimensions of the links are:
OP (crank) = 240 mm, OA = 150 mm, AR = 165 mm and RS = 430 mm. The crank rotates at an
angular velocity of 2.5 rad/s. At the moment when the crank makes an angle of 450 with the
vertical, calculate

1. The velocity of ram S

2. The velocity of slider P on the slotted lever

3. The angular velocity of the link RS.

Part B

Q4. A mechanism as shown in the fig1., has the following dimensions:

OA = 200 mm; AB = 1.5 m; BC = 600 mm CD = 500 mm and BE = 400 mm. Locate all the
instantaneous centre. If crank OA rotates uniformly at 120 rpm clockwise, find

1. The velocity of B, C and D

2. The angular velocity of links AB, BC and CD.

Q5. In a mechanism shown in Fig.2, the crank OA is 100 mm long and rotates clockwise about O
at 120 rpm. The connecting road AB is 400 mm long.

At the point C on AB, 150 mm from A, the road CE 350 mm long is attached. This road
CE slides in a slot in a trunnion at D. The end E is connected by a link EF, 300 mm long to the
horizontally moving slider F.

For the mechanism in the position shown, find

1. Velocity of F

2. Velocity of sliding of CE in the trunnion

3. Angular velocity of CE.

Q6. The crank of a slider crank mechanism rotates clockwise at a constant speed of 300 rpm. The
crank is 150 mm and connecting rod is 600 mm long. Determine :

1. Linear velocity and acceleration of the mid point of the connecting rod and,

2. Angular velocity and angular acceleration of the connecting rod , at a crank angle of 450
from inner dead centre position.
