INTRODUCTION
First of all, a name of a person is his foremost identity. So, when a
baby takes birth, parents pour all their love, when they think of a
name for their baby. In Indian culture, parents take even extra care
while keeping a meaningful name for baby.

In these times not every child is named as per rules of moon sign
based on time and place, but yes, even today, a letter is allotted to
every child based on the time and place where he or she is born.
Though, you may just name a child based on the letter from moon
sign and not use it for official purposes. This is based mostly on lines
similar to numerology where some people change the letters of their
names or even their names so that it may be well suited as per
numerological calculations.

So, a letter is allotted beginning with which your name can bring luck
and fortunes for you, or would keep you most aligned to your stars.
Astrology has a big role in Indian culture, especially in Hinduism.
Most of the people who follow Hinduism, follow Rashi and
Nakshatra for any big incident of their life, such as from marriage to
baby birth to keeping baby names to any good occasion. Naming a
baby is itself a ceremony called ‘Naamkaran’. It happens on a
particular day, again after consulting astrology. So, it is obvious that
in Hinduism, parents will keep eye at Rashi and Nakshatra when
thinking of a name for baby.

In ancient India, we find many examples of name according to Rashi,

such as Giridhar (lord Krishna) for Kumbha Rashi (Aquarius),
Banbhatt (name of an ancient poet) for Vrishabha Rashi or Taurus
etc. Generally, first letter or first two letters are suggested for
baby names based on Rasi in Vedic Astrology.

Another reason is a scientific one. Psychology says, when you call a
person by his name again and again, it influences his personality.
Also, according to Astrology, Rashi and Nakshatra at birth time
influence baby's future. So, parents try to keep a name according to
Rashi and Nakshatra hoping that the good influence of his or her
Rashi and Nakshatra might help the baby to build a bright future,
when people will call the child by that name repeatedly.

In some regions of India, parents keep baby names according to

Rashi because such names are indicators of astrological birth detail.
This helps keeping track of Rashi and Nakshatra of the baby later in
future, without searching it in long complicated documents called
'Kundali'.

But, there are many divisions in Hinduism and there are some other
beliefs too. In contradiction, some parents do not keep their baby's
name according to Rashi. They believe that it may disturb the good
stars if anyone many choose to inflict harm to the child.
Therefore, like the vast and diverse culture, there are many beliefs,
thoughts and reasons behind keeping or not keeping a baby name
according to Rashi in India.

Naming a human being is the most important event in that person’s

life as it is this name that will help mould his or her future. It is also
the only thing that remains with us throughout our life – and is used
by us and others all the time.

A name is the best gift parents could give their children. If parents
believe in naming the child as they wish, they should not give names
that have bad meanings. For example, Viranga (which means the
male sex organs) or Ayoni (which means a woman without a
reproductive system) or Chinta (which means – worry) or Nirodh
(which means – contraception)

Some parents coin names by joining their names together to
formulate the name of their child. Most of these coined names might
sound nice but do not have any meaning which results in the child
becoming an aimless or misguided individual. This has been proved
and tested over the many years of my practice in the field of
Astrology.

When giving a name to a new born child you need to find the
auspicious sounding starting letters for the name. It is believed when
such an auspicious sounding name is constantly repeated over the
years to come, it will act as a “mantra” which will bring good luck for
the child. Your child should be given spiritual names taken from our
holy scriptures. For example Krsna, Ram, Keshav, Madhav, Mohan,
Radha, Radhika, Madhupriya. This has great benefits to your child and
will also benefit everyone that addresses the child by this name, as
the child will hear the names of the Lord and the person who is
addressing the child will jointly benefit by unknowingly chanting the
holy names of the Lord. In this way both the child and everyone will
make spiritual advancement and achieve the goal of life – to return to
the spiritual kingdom of the Lord. In this degraded age of Kaliyuga the
recommended process to break away from the bondage of repeated
birth, old age, disease and death is the chant the holy names of the
Lord constantly so as to enable the person to remember the Lord
when departing from this world. Let us not forget that the purpose
of acquiring the human form is to reconnect with God and return to
His Kingdom to enjoy eternal bliss and happiness.

It is therefore important to blend ones material and spiritual life into

one. There should be no difference in work and prayer.

CHOOSING A NAME ACCORDING TO THE DAYS OF THE WEEK
There are three ways of finding letters. The crudest way is according
to the Day. It is like giving the name “Chandra” to all babies that are
born on Mondays or “Ravi” to all male babies born on a Sunday.

CHOOSING A NAME ACCORDING TO THE LAGNA OR RISING SIGN

For the second and third methods you need to cast the horoscope of
the child and find out the “Lagna” (Rising Sign) and the “Janama
Nakshatra” (position of the Moon) of the child from the horoscope.
For this one has to consult with a bone-fide astrologer who is well
versed in this field as this has a bearing on the entire future of the
child. At this point a full horoscope reading is compiled in order to
determine the characteristics, career choices, health, good and
inauspicious periods of his / her life and other happenings during the
lifespan of the child.

On many occasions we have found that children were incorrectly

named and this produces negative results in the life of the individual
later on. At that time it becomes very difficult to change the name of
the person affected.

The letters compatible with the “Lagna” are considered the best. Then
the second best are the letters according to “Janma Nakshatra”. The
third preference is the letters according to the Day.

How to find letters for the naming of a new born baby.

time frames over the registration of births. Considering that, the
letters had to be found as soon as possible.
It is not surprising that I have been requested to compile the
horoscope of an animal or pet. They want to name the pet according
to the Lagna to ensure that the pet will be happy and healthy
throughout his life.
Most of my clients have chosen the names of their businesses or
home, or brand of a product according to astrology and they are very
successful.
It is with this in mind that I have compiled this booklet that will
provide you with a good idea of how the alphabet should be chosen
once the horoscope is drawn up.

WE NEED TO FIND OUT THE LAGNA.

Suppose you do not like the letters you got from the Lagna of the
baby you can now proceed to name your child according to the
Janam Nakshatra. (Star)

Do remember that the name should be given according to the

sound, for example Che – Chetan or Re – Revati as we do not follow
the English alphabets. Sanskrit, Hindi and Gujarati is based on
phonic. The following is a list of the Janam Nakshatra and the
sounds that are associated to them. Once the horoscope is compiled
and the Nakshatra is determined one can very easily choose the
correct sound which should be used in naming the child. For
example – Ashwini Nakshatra produces the sounds Chu, Che, Cho or
La. Baby should be given a name that commences with these
sounds. For example Che = Chetan or La = Laksh.
