INTRODUCTION
◼ History is constructed from
interpretation of various key events and
occurrences in the past.
◼ The study of history helps us in knowing
about the past activities and what all
changes need to be adopted to plan a
better future.
◼ History reveals the people’s experiences
,beliefs, situation at that time and gives
us an consensus to take precautions for
How can history be a valid tool to plan
the future
History makes us aware about our past strengths or
failures and helps us in adopting corrective measures
for a better tomorrow.
What happens in the present and what happens in
the future is very much governed by what happened
in the past so knowledge about the past events and
circumstances will help us in making proper
strategies for the future.
•Knowledge about the past events
and circumstances might bring
easy solutions to the present or
future problems in an
organization.
•Experiences in the past is helpful
in choosing right path towards
success
• Organizations in order to increase
future sales and increase the demand
of there products often make a
comparative demand analysis of the
product in the past and plan the
future.

• History and activities in the past is

helpful for an organization to decide
its respective goals and objectives to
be attained in future.
⦿ The past activities of any
organization will be helpful in
making decisions for the future
and will help in choosing from the
different alternatives the best
among all according to the past
analysis and interpretation.
History can be considered as a
major tool for planning the future
but we have various instances
where past activities or events do
not play a major role in planning
our future.
GUJARAT EARTHQUAKE , 2001
When India was celebrating its 52nd Republic Day on
26th January 2001, the Western part of the country
faced one of the worst earthquakes in history.
26 January 2015 marks the 14th anniversary of one of
the most devastating disasters that left nearly a
million families homeless.
The earthquake which last for two minutes killed more
than 19727 people in Gujarat.
● Twenty one out of 25 districts in the state
was were totally destroyed and Kutch was
the worst affected district , followed by
Ahmedabad ,Jamnagar and Rajkot.
● Following the massive 7.9 magnitude quake
,more than 5oo aftershocks continued to
strike different parts of Gujarat till March.
● When many believed that Gujarat would take years to
get back to normal, and the business and trade
activities will never flourish again in the state, the
collective efforts and planning of the people and the
government helped the state to recover and moreover
lead the industrial , healthcare and education sector
reached new heights.
HOW HISTORY DID NOT
AFFECT THE FUTURE
PLANNING IN GUJARAT
BUSINESS BOOM
◼ Some 300 companies established their
business in Kutch even though being aware
of the fact that Kutch is listed among as an
earthquake prone area.
◼ Mundra was a small fishing port in Kutch
before the earthquake and its an industrial
hub handling hundreds of tonnes of goods
everyday.
◼ Near ANJAR, a city that was devastated by
the earthquake , the biggest towel factory
in the world by Welspun was set up in just
nine months.
INDIAN DEMOCRACY AND OUR
FIRST GENERAL ELECTIONS
• When India got independence ,our
leaders decided to opt Democracy as a
form of governance.
• Universal Adult Franchise i.e. giving every
individual the right to vote was
enshrined in our Constitution.
• But keeping in view the past history of our
country many dignitaries around the world
revealed that Democracy would be a failure in a
country which has just attained independence
,has just come out of the trauma of partition ,
where people are illiterate and moreover in a
country where pluralism exists i.e. where people
of different religion ,caste group and cultural
groups live together in a society ,hence
democracy was considered to be a failure in a
country like India.
● But despite of our past failures , the then Election
Commissioner ,Sukumar Sen, planned our future
vision to be democratic and in the year 1950,
conducted our first general elections which not only
proved our critics wrong but India emerged as the
largest democracy in the world and continues to be
so.
● Despite of the fact ,where the history revealed that in
countries where pluralism exist, democracy is deemed
to be a failure, our country proved that democracy
can exist anywhere and everywhere in the world.
