1.

What are the new technological skills you learned this semester and how will you use
them in your future classroom?

Throughout the semester, I learned how to use different platforms in order to record
sounds, create videos, edit pictures and I learned how to use those different platforms and
combine them together in order to create a MART 2 project. The platform that I develop the
most technological skills is Audacity because this platform has a wide range of tasks that
you can perform. You can record audio, edit audio, eliminate background noises, add
music/effects and many more. This platform has really been instructive for me because I
never really got the chance to work with audio before. All I have worked with in editing was
iMovie, so it was very special to work only with sound. For my future classroom, such
editing skills could be fun for my students to learn because they could use them for their
oral presentations to make them more interactive. With Audacity, students who are shier
will feel more comfortable talking in a microphone rather than in front of the class so that is
an advantage of that technological tool. Also, Adobe Spark could be a useful tool for my
future classroom because it is very user friendly. The platform guides the user throughout
the building of his/her presentation contrarily to Microsoft PowerPoint.

2. What could be possible challenges you may face in terms of integrating these learned
tools in your future classroom?

The possible challenges of introducing such platforms for young children are observable.
First of all, everything could be new for most of the students. Contrarily to students like me
who already knew more than the basics of technology, some students might fall behind into
following the class activities according to different platforms because they have very knowledge
according to technology. That is why, as a teacher, you HAVE to start at the very bottom in
order for students who are still discovering technology to slowly improve with it. Another
challenge of integrating technological platforms in my future classroom could be that not
everyone has a computer, or the school does not have enough computer. If it is the case,
students would have to partner up but again, that would not maximize the students’ learning
since they would not do everything on their own, they would have to alternate with their
partner. Finally, another problem in integrating technology in my future physical education
classroom would be that it does not promote physical activity. Nowadays, young children play a
lot more video games at home than before. Making the students come to class and make them
learn even more about technology would increase their screen time, which is already very high
on average.
3. How does Neil Selwyn’s video relate to your learning experiences of EDEC 262?

Like Mr. Selwyn started his conference, when I came into the EDEC 262 class, I asked myself:
“What am I going to learn in this class?” and “What is it about technology that will be useful in
my job as a teacher?” At first, when I got into the class, I was a little bit anxious because I was
going to work with new things that I have never worked with before even though I already had
a strong basis with technology. Although a lot of materials were new to me, I was willing for
change just like Neil Selwyn stated in his speech. I was willing to have new technological
knowledge in order to transmit that knowledge to my future students. Neil said: “You don’t get
involved with digital technology unless you want to try and do things differently” (3:28) and I
think that this phrase relates a lot to the way I think. I want to be different from other teachers
in a way that students hopefully learn more because of the way I differ my teaching methods by
integrating technology.
