As we learn about the contention between the Ham-Feds and Jef-DRs, you will also be working on a

presidential campaign… YOUR presidential campaign.

America
2020
The Scenario: By some unexplainable meta-reality-magic, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton have
returned from beyond the grave for another run for the executive branch! Only this time, they’ve chosen
to run as vice-presidents. Also… your political expertise & knowledge of US History have just earned you a
position on the election committee for their campaigns! Huzzah!
Class has been divided into 2 committees based on your political typology results. One person from each
committee will run for president with either Hamilton or Jefferson as their VP.

The Task at Hand: You and your committee will put together a short 3-5 minute campaign ad that will be
aired to a panel of prospective voters. Then, those voters will decide which candidates to support for the
presidency.

Each committee has 3 specialized teams:

1. POTUS & VP candidates, and speech writers
2. Artistic team
3. Platform/policy designers
*As a group, you and your committee members will determine who will be a part of each team

Your team will need to answer 3 questions:

1. Leadership: who should be in charge? (in other words, should the U.S. be a nation of “the best” in
charge, or “the rest”)
2. The future of the economy: how do we grow the economy? (e.g. encourage international trade &
globalization, or promote use of domestic natural resources & industry)
3. Foreign involvement/relations: do we maintain and further develop diplomatic relations with
foreign nations (even if that means involvement in foreign crises), or withdraw from global stage
and take protective stance on U.S. security (even if that means losing support from foreign allies)?
*While you will be addressing current issues, you will address each issue in a way that aligns with
your VP’s (Hamilton or Jefferson) view of government and society.

You will be working on this project in class, but you are also welcome to coordinate with committee outside of
class. Ad filming will take place this Friday 3/1/19.
