ISTE Standard: Collaboration
● Meant to dedicate one’s time to collaborate with colleagues to create activities that are based off the
students real world experience or world issues going on that might be affecting the students due to
their generation.
● The educator should be open to co-learning with the student because this will build a strong
relationship between the student and teacher.
● Teachers should be able to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with technology.
● Educators should use collaborative tools to expand students real-world global/local problems, skill
building, and project design, by engaging with virtual experts.
● Being able to interact and respect people from various culture and being mindful of their differences.
● Embracing the cultural difference and using it as something new to learn.
● Culture identities can help a student learn and help improve collaboration and communication skills
with parent or guardian.
Why is collaboration important?
Educators:
● Co-workers who teach the same
grade can share lessons.
● Sharing lessons creates
uniformity among the grade level.
Helps to build community.
● Can plan lessons together and
bounce ideas around.
Students:
● Helps to develop social and time
management skills.
● Encourages oral communication
and peer interaction.
● Allows peers to help teach each
other.
● Students tend to gain trust and
confidence through working with
others.
Collaboration with Technology
Students:
● Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their
learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally
and globally.

Educactor:
● Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to
improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve
problems.
Why does it matter?
For teachers:
● an effective teachers wants collaboration, not just simply sharing a parking lot with fellow

colleagues

● in order for strong students and strong teachers, teachers must work as a team to achieve

common goals that are linked to the purpose of learning for all

● teachers must recognize that the responsibility of one student shouldn’t fall on one teacher but

all teachers.

● effective collaboration exposes teachers to improved practices, which leads to stronger

pedagogy
Why does it matter?
For students:
● Collaboration makes the classroom a place of exploration and exchange where students can

gain deeper knowledge of themselves, their potential, their role in a community and the

information they are learning

● Collaboration isn’t necessary for all projects, but in some collaboration ensures a supportive

learning community

● Learning is a social process and is deepened when ideas are challenged and expectations are in

place

How to Prove Collaboration Skills
How are teachers able to prove this skill inside and outside the classroom:

● Teachers can prove they have the skill of a collaborator if they create
authentic learning experiences that they worked on with colleagues that their
students are engaged in
● If they are having their students engaged in real work experiences
● If they work together with colleagues, parents and students to make sure their
student is getting the proper help he or she needs
● By forming collaborative group with other teachers to discuss common goals
and focusing on improving the learning environment for everyone

1. Forming: team of teachers
come together to begin to learn
about each others and develop
processes for how their group
will function, some more
dominant teachers may try to
lead discussions
3. Norming: As teachers begin
to collaborate, they can see the
positive effects that begin to
occur. Interpersonal
relationships occur,
productivity is increasing, and
meetings focus on achieving a
consensus.
2. Storming: teaching styles and
practices are different for every
educator. Some find it hard to
share ideas or be questioned on
their practices. This stage people
may get defensive when their
practices are questioned.
Through conflict growth will
occur

becomes very high functioning,
professional and academic growth

disagree about a topic, they have
an easier time discussing it with an
understanding of the ultimate goal

Using Collaborative Technology: FlipGrid
● Students can respond to questions in video format.

● Can comment on other students videos.

● Fun because the students can decorate their video with stickers.

● Teacher can view and comment on all the videos as well.

● Videos can only be viewed by those in the class. Private safe online

environment.
Using Collaborative Technology: Google Form
Teacher can view all of the stats from the quiz.

Allows for student teacher communication.

Has many options such as being anonymous, requiring answers to certain questions,
true/false, multiple choice, short answer, and more.

Google is overall very easy for collaborative online work.

Using Collaborative Technology: Quizizz
Quizizz is a platform where students can take online quizzes.

The students have fun because the website includes memes, colors,
music, as well as creates a scoreboard which gives a sense of
competition.

It allows for communication between the teacher and students

because the teacher gets results seeing where students struggled
and what needs to be revisited.
