The document is a reaction paper by a student on the documentary "Genesis: A History". The student discusses two competing paradigms on the origin of life and the earth: the Conventional Paradigm of evolution over billions of years and the Genesis Paradigm from the Bible of everything starting recently according to Genesis. After watching the documentary, the student was confused by how convincing both paradigms were explained. However, the student is currently leaning towards the Conventional Paradigm because it explains the intricate design of life and earth through a long, gradual process rather than an intelligent creator over a short time scale.

Reaction Paper on the “Genesis a History” Documentary
Ever since the start of when humans had the power to think and question the unknown, the mystery of how our place of existence formed had already existed in our minds. Was there really a true and scientific reason of how the Earth began? Or is the word of God where our history truly lies? In seeking the truth to our inquiries, we have two paradigms to consider. But first, what is a paradigm? According to Wikipedia, a paradigm is a distinct set of concepts or thought patterns, including theories, research methods, postulates, and standards for what constitutes legitimate contributions to a field. The first paradigm to consider is the Conventional Paradigm. The Conventional Paradigm interprets everything with the notion of evolution that has happened over a long period of time. The second paradigm is the Genesis Paradigm. The Genesis Paradigm illustrates the origin of everything according to the book of Genesis in the bible. But which paradigm is the real honest truth? Which is the just story of our hidden past? Did it start billions of light years ago or did our time start with a huge explosion of miracles? Watching the documentary, I felt confused and conflicted as to what I should be believing in because of how convincing both paradigms were explained. But for now, I am leaning to the idea of the conventional paradigm. In the conventional paradigm, you are talking about deep time which is 13.7 billion years ago. It walks through a slow and gradual process of evolution starting with the primal simplicity ending in what we all see today. This does not talk about a great power, but of built up physical processes where no mind, no creator design is present. The latter which is the historical Genesis Paradigm, believes that everything starts with a great power from one divine mind full of intelligence that plans and bring life to the most complex of things. It talks about how it all started on a much more recent time scale which could be 200 years ago. I for one believe in the much more slow and gradual process of things. I am more convinced with the idea that those fossils and rock formations have been made and preserved well through a very complicated process, involving the complex science behind it if we think about how it got there. I’ve been more convinced because of how intricate the design of things are, and because of the thought of how many changes, phases and disasters the Earth must have gone through. I would think that it wouldn’t be this unique if it weren’t for how long it took to take shape and mature to become what we call the beauty and mystery it is for us all.
