Design check of Retaining wall for introducing DB in Retaining Wall:

The net moment acting on the retaining wall :

Due to soil pressure = ½ x Ka x γ x h x h x 2/3 x h
= 0.5*0.51*18*2/3*2.23
= 32.58 KN-m
Due to dead loads in surcharge =
q x Ka x h x h/2
= 34.30*0.51*2.2*2.2/2
= 42.33 KN-m
Due to live loads in surcharge =
q x Ka x h x h/2 =
15.00*0.51*2.2*2.2/2
= 18.513 KN-m
Factored moment = 1.4DL+1.6LL = 134.5KN-m (Moment reduction is equal to almost 1/3rd of the original net moment)
Cover to reinforcement:-
As per the design basis (clause 4.7.5), cover to concrete in substructure below ground as recommended in Table 10.2 of Geotechnical Report is 50mm.
As per Table 2 of SP-1275, all concrete elements below ground (except RC Piles) shall be provided with 50mm cover.
Also as per Table 15 of SP-1282, considering exposure condition of b or even c (not directly casted against soil in contact) the cover of 40 to 50 mm shall be provided.
Therefore, adopting a cover of 50mm we get effective depth,
d = 300-100-50-25/2 = 137.5 mm
K= M/bd2fc = 134.5 x 106 / (1000 x 137.52 x 50) = 0.142 <0.156, Hence under reinforced section.
Z (lever arm) = 137.5 (0.5+√(0.25-0.142/0.9))= 110.5 mm
Ast. required = M/(0.87 x fy x z)= 134.5 x 106 / (0.87 x 500 x 110.5) = 2800 mm2/m
Provide steel = 4261 mm2/m (H25@115 mm c/c) on soil retention side.
This calculation is for the section where the Retaining wall has less effective depth because of DB.

Above calculation shows that the retaining wall is safe for the reduced section. Further checking the retaining wall for capacity considering the hatched portion not
present at section A-A (most critical).

Soil load moment/m = 32.58 KN-m/m

Dead Load surcharge moment = 42.33 KN-m/m
Live Load surcharge moment = 18.513 KN-m/m
Net Factored Moment = 134.5 KN-m/m
Factored moment to be taken up by the section A-A after loss of hatched portion = 134.5x 17.5/16.6 = 141.8 KN-m/m.
[d =300-50-25/2 =237.5mm, k = 0.051, z =223.2]
Required Reinforcement = 1460 mm2/m <<< 4260 mm2/m (provided)
Shear Check:-
Shear/m due to soil load = 0.5x0.51x18x2.222 = 22.22 KN
Shear/m due to DL surcharge = 34.3x0.51x2.2 = 38.49 KN
Shear/m due to LL surcharge = 15x0.51x2.2 = 16.83 KN
Factored Shear Load/m = 1.4DL +1.6LL =111.92 KN
Shear Capacity: VRd,c =1.06 N/mm2 (Ref RAH-15-102366-CS-1206-00007-0000)
Here the Capacity of the left over 16.6m length only taken.
Therefore, reduced shear capacity of section at A-A = 1.06x16.6/17.5 = 1.01 N/mm2
Factored Shear Stress = 111.92x1000/(237.5x1000) = 0.471 N/mm2 < 1.01 N/mm2
Hence Safe in Shear.
For loss of reinforcement around the opening in non-soil retention side of the retaining wall, additional Reinforcement is developed and thus the section of DB is Safe.
Original Reinforcement Provided = H12-150mm c/c
Loss of Reinforcement in DB area= (113x1000/150)x1.1 =828 mm2
We have conservatively provided 4-H16 all around and additional reinforcement also on the back side of DB including the diagonal reinforcement.
