What is the connection between the heart and the brain?

The medical field holds a special spot in my heart. From a young age, I have had a desire

to pursue a career in the medical field. As Miss Teen Ohio North America 2018, I received a lot

of opportunities to visit the ill. I took time at Dayton Children's Hospital located in Dayton, Ohio

to visit the patients in the Intensive care unit and the children diagnosed with various types of

cancer. The question I want to research is “ What is the connection between the heart and the

brain?”. Seeing young children who only have months to live was heartbreaking. After seeing so

many heartbreaking situations, I am inspired to be in the medical field.

These experiences brought up the topics about the connection between organs. The

organs I find most interesting are the heart, brain and the lungs. I met a young boy named Caleb.

Caleb was twelve years of age and diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. What I found the most

interesting about Caleb was his positivity. He was constantly positive and playing video games.

Caleb's positivity had a influence on my topic about the connection between the heart and the

brain.

I feel my topic is very intense and complex. I realize it will involve a lot of technical

terms. The heart is a organ in the circulatory system. The brain is located in the nervous system.

Before researching my topic I think the topic is very interesting and creative. The physiology

part of the body is very creative and interesting. I think researching the connection between the

heart and brain will bring up further information that I did not learn in anatomy and physiology. I

think that the brain and heart deals with a lot of sensory and involuntary connections. After

taking anatomy and physiology, I have learned about the main functions of the body and how

tissues work. I have also learned about the types of organs and how they impact the body.

The human body is very complex, to find the connection between the heart and brain I

need to know how the heart and brain are connected, what organs are between them and what is

protecting them. The distance between the heart and brain, what processes they both take place

in, and what they do to function. After conducting research I want to know if the brain and heart

signals each other in emergencies, and if the brain and heart fight diseases in the body. To find

my answers I am going to purchase books about the heart and the brain, along with internet

searches. I am going to verify my questions using multiple sources. I want my questions

answered as accurately as possible. I am very excited to research the brain and heart and to find

the connection.
