Music Notes:
Park students are growing so much as musicians. Please see the attached newsletter to know more about what
each grade level has been learning. The 4th grade students will be traveling to Muskegon for the link up field
trip on Tuesday, April 24. This concert is a great opportunity for students to listen to and perform with a
professional orchestra. They will be singing, moving and playing recorders along with the orchestra. A
newsletter was sent home Wednesday with all of the details. Thank you for your support of Park Music!
Please click here for more detailed info on what’s going in the music room.

Park Music Teacher
Taking a closer look at our cognitively impaired students here at Park!

Park Elementary has the great opportunity to be the home to our district's Cognitive Impairment program. This
program currently includes three classrooms: Mrs. Grabill teaches K/1st, Mrs. Pell and Mrs. Hekman teach 2nd/
3rd, and Mrs. Childress teaches 4th/5th. Our program offers a unique and modified curriculum that supports
developmental and daily living skill needs and differences. All of our students are part of another classroom in
the building and spend varied amounts of time in general education based on what is best for the individual
student.

Frequently Asked Questions:

• What is inclusion?

◦ Inclusion secures opportunities for students with disabilities to learn alongside their non-disabled
peers. Inclusion experiences are individualized for each student.

• How can I help support and encourage inclusion conversations with my child?

◦ Remind your child to use all students’ names, not their CI label.
◦ Encourage your child to ask questions.
◦ Foster the importance of friendships with all children and recognize that differences are what
makes us awesome.
◦ Ask your child about the inclusion that happens during their day.
