1 Introduction
This document describes the local user interface. All related functions are explained including all
parameters, data logging and interface to the remaining system. The overview document lists the complete
controller functionality and describes the documentation concept.
This document gives an overview of the ORION MENU structure displayed on UIL (User Interface Local)
and UIM1 (User Interface Module).
The UIL is the local user interface which covers the controller front face.
The MENU itself is controlled by the ORION SW and not by the UIM, the controller sends the data over the
CAN interface (named IMBUS) to the UIM.
The UIM SW handles the Start Mode, the Test Mode, the contrast and the IMBUS protocols. He sends the
"key-pressed" events, displays the incoming data and updates the LED's and Buzzer states.
3 Physical connections
ORION has an Ethernet connection on the front panel for connection to a computer. This connection can
be either direct to the computer, or over a local area network (LAN).
The system integration is done via backplane. The connector arrangement of a standard backplane is
presented below.
3
Fig 2: Top View of the standard backplane with connectors

connector for rectifiers (6 pole RJ Teljack without powering)
All peripheral connections are pluggable, using either telephone jacks or pluggable clamp connections.

4 Parameter Navigation
4.1 UIM1 Start Mode
The UIM1 starts in this mode, you have a short overview of the local keys-functions.
The long number is the "Module Serial Number" programmed once in operation.
At start the UIM1 checks the RAM, the program CRC and the "Module Serial Number" CRC. If an error is
detected, a message appears and the UIM1 will not start to communicate with the controller.
Example:
UIM1 Error
EX&EN Test Mode
Program Not Ok
Manu Data Not Ok
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
HW Version: 00
SW Version: V1.00
Imbus ID: 01
The contrast is also locally controlled, you can change it by pressing EXIT and then or (keep EXIT
pressed) somewhere in the MENU structure.
In this mode the yellow COM LED (on the side) is Off and the UIM1 waits for the controller connection.
If the controller is not connected or if the CAN communication is not ok, you will see after some delay
5 Test Mode
You can switch in test mode by pressing EXIT and then ENTER (keep EXIT pressed) somewhere in the
MENU structure.
5.1 UIM1
In this mode you can check the LEDs, the Buzzer and LCD Display, view the UIM1 Hardware and Software
Version and the Address Switch position.
You have more information in the field SW Version (Build Version and Downloader Version).
In this mode the yellow COM LED is off and the UIM1 does not display the controller data.
Press EXIT and then ENTER (keep EXIT pressed) to switch in start mode again.
5
5.2 UIL Test Mode
In this mode you can check the LEDs and the LCD Display.
Additionally you can change the contrast by pressing EXIT and then or (keep EXIT pressed) and it will
be automatically saved in persistent memory when switching back in normal mode!
Test Mode
LED On/Off
LCD Test
EX&EN Normal Mode
Press EXIT and then ENTER (keep EXIT pressed) to switch back in normal mode!
Note: It is possible to change the contrast without entering the UIL test mode. By pressing EXIT and then
or (keep EXIT pressed) the contrast can be adjusted in normal operation mode. In this case the contrast
is not saved immediately.
6 Default Menu
The 5 basics system information Mode, Irect, Iload, Usys and Ibatt measurements are displayed per
default.
Additionally Battery State of Charge in % is displayed when the feature Battery Loss of Backup Time is
enabled.
Blinking indicates that a web user has remote access to ORION over Ethernet or Modem interfaces.
If the power system contains Photovoltaic converters (PVC) or DC Sources, the default menu will
additionally include one “Solar” icon with Ipvc measurement and one “Aux” icon with Isource measurement.
Please notes that the few text elements on these defaults pictures are in english and will not be translated
to avoid some problem of sizes.

7 Main Menu
Press or to select a Sub MENU
Press ENTER to enter in a Sub MENU, change a parameter or execute a command.
Press EXIT to quit a Sub MENU
If you don't press a key, the default MENU will pop up after a 3 minutes timeout.

9 Password
The Menu Password will pop up if you press ENTER on an editable parameter (when the value is
highlighted) or execute a command like "Stop Alarm", "Clear Log" or …
You have three attempts to enter a password. Once a correct password is entered, it will stay valid until the
Default Menu pops up again (after a 3 minutes timeout or when you explicit go back).
The user can choose between usual or numerical password, for this the Numerical checkbox is available
on the WEB GUI under Home> Configuration > I/0 >User Interface in section Password.
The usual password is a 6 positions password build by the sequence of the 6 entered keys. For example
with "EXIT" you will not exit the Password Menu but the password position will be incremented.
The controller will check it as soon as the password is complete, namely after the sixth key pressed.

The numerical password is a four positions number. UP and DN keys increment and decrement the figure
at actual cursor position, ENTER increments the cursor position.
The controller will check it as soon as the password is complete, namely after the fourth ENTER pressed.

9.3 No Access
If the a Web user is logged and if a UIM user try to edit a value, clear the logs, you have no write access
to the database and this message pops up for 1 second.

Access
The commands "Stop Alarm" and "LVD Inhibit" have no access to the database, therefore always
possible.
You can change the password In Menu 6.1.4 UIM PASSWORD. First you must enter the actual
password, then the new one and then the new one again to confirm.
You can also load the Default Password but for this action the factory Password is required!
The reload password is the usual or numerical default depending of the GUI Numerical Password
checkbox.

.2 LOAD DEF
In some special cases it will be useful for the user to start with the Default Factory Settings.
To start in this mode, press the EXIT key on UIL and give power to the controller, all the UIL LEDs will go
OFF after the start-up sequence, stop to press the EXIT key as soon as all LEDs are blinking.
Be careful, this action will overwrite your actual setup file, so if you want to keep a version of this file, save
it to a PC before.
