Introduction:

 Solid waste refers to the range of garbage arising from

human and animal activity that are discarded as unwanted,
useless material for which no use is intended.
 In LPU solid waste are generated maximum from the food
court side and hostels.
 E-waste- discarded electronic devices like computer,
TV, Music systems, AC, Cooler etc.
 Plastic waste- plastic bags, bottles, buckets etc.
 Metal waste- unused metal sheet, metal scraps etc.

Types Of Solid Waste:

There are two types of solid waste:

Biodegradable waste - Biodegradable materials are

composed of waste from living organisms and
the actual plant, animal or other organism when
its life ends.
Non-biodegradable waste - Materials having properties
that do not breakdown or decay are called Non-
biodegradable.
Objective :
 The primary objective of this study is to investigate the solid
waste management project in LPU.
 We have concerned on the present situation of the LPU
campus, sources of waste generation effects and impacts on
the ‘LPU vectors’
 The main objective was to know how much waste is
generated here because of large number of student in
the campus.
SOLID WASTE IN LPU

Components:
1. Garbage :- Kitchen waste(mess,
canteen), rotten vegetable and fruits
discarded by the hostels.
2. Construction waste :- Tile pieces, Metal pieces, Bricks.
3. Rubbish:- Polythene, Plastics, glass, Textile
waste, Metal pieces.

4. Hospital waste :-
Needles, gloves, ampules, vials, bottles, tubes.
Purpose of project:
 Our main purpose to solid waste management is that for
reducing and economicity adverse impacts of waste
material in human health and environment to support
economical development and superior quality of life.
 We are doing this so that reusable goods and food which is
wasted should not get wasted and properly recycled.
 We want to know the opinion of the students, teachers
and the staffs of LPU about the solid waste management.

Learning Outcomes:
 After performing this project, we came to know
about many things:
 We gained the knowledge about the 3R’s.
 The way to interact the people about sold
waste management in the detail, its solution
and reason to the waste management.
 We have realized the importance of this project.

 We come to know about wastage of food as well as E-waste

in LPU.

Problems in Dealing with Solid

Waste:

 Education & voluntary compliance

 Collection of waste

 Technological interventions

 Institutions & regulatory framework

 Absence of mandatory standards for waste reduction

and market action for waste reduction.

Managing Waste:
 Recycling: Processing of a waste item into usable
forms.

 Benefits of recycling:
-Reduce environmental degradation
-Making money out of waste
-Save energy that would have gone into waste handling &
product manufacture.

 Saving through recycling:

-When Al is resmelted - considerable saving in cost
-Making paper from waste saves 50% energy
-Every ton of recycled glass saves energy equivalent to
100 liters of oil.

Three Principle R’s::’

Recycling is not a solution to all

problems!
 Recycling is not a solution to managing every
kind of waste material

 For many items recycling technologies are unavailable or

unsafe

 In some cases, cost of recycling is too high.

Conclusion:
 Waste management is the biggest problem of today’s world.
 It is the important concern not only for LPU
campus but also for the whole world.

 As the garbage is increasing at an alarmingly high rate day by

day.
 We should control it as fast as possible otherwise
we should ready to face consequences.
