- tools that are powered by forces other than human muscles

Power Saw
 Radial Arm Saw
- considered as a stationary power tools
- consists of a motor-driven saw blade that is hung on arm over a table
- used mostly for cross-cutting dimension lumber

 Table Saw
- consists of a blade mounted on an electric motor beneath a tablelike surface
- used for cutting large sheets of wood & plywood, for ripping lumber, and cutting of wood at an angle

 Portable Circular Saw


- used to cut materials that are difficult to cut with stationary tools

 Power Miter Saw


- used to cut various angles in wood

- used to cut holes in floors and roofs

Power Drills & Screwdrivers


 Power Drill
- used for drilling holes in wood, metal, and concrete
- some have reversible motors so that they can turn forward and backward

 Power Screwdriver
- also known as screwgun
- used to install and remove screws
- has a special screwdriver bit that fits into the head of the screw

Power Hammers
 Pneumatic Hammers
- also known as jackhammers
- used to break up concrete or asphalt paving

 Rotary Hammer
- used to drill holes in concrete
- operates with both rotating and reciprocating action

Power Hammers
 Nailers
- also known as nail guns
- can fasten together materials by aligning the boards and pulling the trigger of the nailer

 Stud Driver
- powered by a 22-caliber cartridge that contains gunpowder
- can fasten two materials together by pressing the gun against the parts to be fasten and pulling of the trigger
- can drive ½” to 3” long pins into wood, steel, or concrete

 Staplers
- similar to nailers, but are loaded with U-shaped staples instead of nails
- primarily used to staple insulation and to fasten roof shingles

- used to measure land size and elevation

 Transit
- measures horizontal and vertical angles
- commonly used to measure relative land elevation

- A versatile equipment that can be used as a level or as an alignment tool

 Water Pump
- a portable equipment that is used to pump water out of holes in the ground so that work can be done

 Concrete Pump
- used to move concrete from the concrete mixer to the concrete form efficiently
- it has a pump mounted on a truck and a boom that holds and directs a hose through which a concrete is pumped

HEAVY EQUIPMENTS
Cranes
- machines that lift large and heavy loads
- can also move loads horizontally along their radius
- parts of the cranes includes:
hoist – the mechanism that winds up the cable and does the lifting
cable – used to attach the object to be lifted to the hoist
boom – the long arm of the crane that directs the cable

 Crawler Crane
- a crane that is mounted on metal treads so that it can move over rough terrain at a construction site

 Tower Crane
- also called as climbing crane
- a crane with a built-in jack that raises the crane from floor to floor as the building is constructed
- used in the construction of tall buildings
- usually positioned in the elevator shaft

Excavators
- one of the most common types of construction equipment
- machines that is used for digging
- it scoops up earth from one place and deposits it in another

 Backhoe
- a type of excavator that is used for general digging
- usually mounted on either a crawler or a truck frame and with a bucket designed to dig toward the machine

 Trencher
- used to dig trenches, or long, narrow ditches, for pipelines and cables

Front-end Loaders
- machine with large scoops used for shoveling
- also called as scoop loaders or tractor shovels

Bulldozers
- a tractor equipped with a front-mounted pushing blade
- one of the most basic and versatile pieces of construction equipment
- can move earth over a short distances and can clear land of bushes and trees

Highway Construction Equipment


 Scraper
- used for loading, hauling, and dumping soil over medium to long distances

 Grader
- used to grade, or level, the ground
- used to prepare roadways and parking lots for paving

 Compactor
- also called as roller
- used to compact the soil of a roadway just before the road is paved

 Pavers
- used to place, spread, and finish concrete or asphalt paving materials
