Your way into EFTA
We’re looking for cadets who have a burning ambition
to be the world’s best pilots. If that sounds like you,
then you don’t need any previous flying experience -
just some basic requirements.
You must have a high school diploma
or degree
We need to see that you’ve graduated at high school
or above to accept you as a cadet.
You have to be comfortable with the
English language
Our programme is in English and it is the mandated
international language of aviation. It will ensure
you’re able to communicate with flight operations
and crew members all over the world. Therefore,
you’ll need to demonstrate your proficiency in both
written and spoken, to a minimum of TOEFL 510 or
higher, during a test when you apply. Based on your
proficiency, you may be offered the opportunity to
study for an English foundation programme at EFTA.
You must have the right knowledge
and personality
As a pilot, General Maths, Mental Maths and Physics
are essential, meaning we’ll also test you on these.
We’ll also give you a psychometric personality test
and a pilot aptitude test (psychomotor) to ensure
you have the right temperament to go through
the training programme and eventually fly a
commercial aircraft.
Depending on your test scores, you may have to
complete a Foundation Programme before you
can start with the Aviation Programme. If your
English, Maths and Physics are of a high enough
standard, you may be invited to bypass all foundation
programmes and start directly with training for the
Air Transport Pilot’s Licence at the Ground School.

The English Language
Should you require the English Language
programme, you’ll need plenty of practice
to get your written and spoken English
up to the standard required to commence
your flight training. That’s why the
Foundation English courses are fully
immersive.

You’ll engage in 30 hours of English

language instruction every week,
using a variety of face-to-face and
computer-based lessons. This will also
be accompanied by homework to be
completed at weekends too.

There
_ are two phases of study to complete
The Foundation English courses are divided into two phases based on your proficiency level.
The duration for Phase 1 is four-and-a-half months, and Phase 2 is six months.

Phase 1: Master the English Phase 2: Learn the language

language of pilots

Here is where you’ll build a solid foundation in all
four English language skills: speaking, listening,
reading and writing. You’ll also be introduced to
Technical English, Mental Maths, Verbal and Non-
Verbal Reasoning. At the end of Phase 1, you’ll take
a series of written and verbal tests to assess what
you’ve learned. If you’re successful, you’ll move on to
Phase 2.
You’ll continue to refine your English language
proficiency in this phase by studying General,
Academic, Technical and Aviation English. You’ll
notice a greater emphasis placed on independent
learning – to help you prepare for the next stage
of your studies. At the end of Phase 2, you’ll take
a series of written and verbal tests to assess your
knowledge. If you’re successful, you’ll move on to the
Aviation Sciences course.

Aviation Sciences Programme
Over a period of 7 months, the Aviation Science course will introduce you to the
technical and theoretical aspects of aviation.

Just like the English Language Programme course, you’ll immerse yourself in 30 hours
of Aviation Sciences instruction every week. As well as using a variety of face-to-face
and computer-based instructional methods, there will also be some homework to
complete on weekends.

What
_ this course includes
Some of the subjects you’ll study will include
Meteorology, Principles of Flight, Navigation,
Flight Planning, Aircraft Performance and a few
more. There will also be site visits to places of
interest, such as the ATC Tower and the Engineering
Department. At the end of the course, you’ll
undertake a series of written and verbal tests to
assess your learning. If successful, you’ll move on to
the Ground School.

ATPL Integrated Programme
This programme consists of ATPL Ground School, Single-Engine flight training, Multi-
Engine Jet flight training, MCC and LOFT.

You’ll begin training for your Air Transport Pilot’s License at the Ground School. This
is an intense period of theoretical knowledge study, requiring you to pass 14 exams
that are overseen by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the UAE’s governing
aviation regulatory body.

Similar to previous courses, you’ll have to attend 30 hours of training every week, using
a variety of face-to-face and computer-based instructional methods – not to forget
additional homework.

Single-Engine Training
Your experience at the Flight School
starts with two weeks of classroom-based
instruction on the Cirrus SR22 G6 aircraft.
This is followed by more than 200 hours
of simulator and aircraft flying instruction
in the SR22 G6, culminating in your
undertaking the Commercial Pilots Licence
(CPL) flying skills test and Single Engine
Instrument Rating (SEIR) skills test.

What
_ this course includes
During this period of training, which lasts approximately 7 months,
you will be instructed in:

• Flying the circuit pattern

• General handling (stalls, steep turns, climbing & descending, etc.)
• Visual navigation
• Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT)
• Instrument flying, departure and approach procedures
• Airways procedures
• Instruments-only navigation
• Night flying
• Abnormal & emergency procedures

This tuition will equip you to pass your CPL/SEIR tests. Once you’ve earned this
qualification, you’ll proceed to more advanced flying training using a twin jet aircraft.

Twin Jet Training
Having successfully gained your CPL/
SEIR, you’ll now be qualified to begin
training with the Embraer P100EV
Phenom twin jet aircraft. This plane can
climb to more than 35,000ft, taking your
training to a whole new level.
What
_ this course includes
The twin jet course starts with 3 weeks of ground
school. After that, you’ll have 80 hours of combined
simulator and real aircraft flying training, leading
up to your single pilot Type Rating skills test. You’ll
cover everything you’ve already experienced in the
single engine course, but flying at four times the
speed and altitude.
Once you pass your Type Rating test, you’ll be
qualified to proceed to the next phase:
The Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) training.

Multi-Crew
Cooperation Training
So far, all your flying training has been aimed at
teaching you how to fly single-engine and twin
jet aircraft as the ‘Pilot in Command’. In this next
phase, you’ll need to learn how to interact in a
multi-crew flight deck environment, enabling
you to assume the two distinct roles of Pilot
Flying (PF) and Pilot Monitoring (PM) covering
separate responsibilities each.

What
_ this course includes
You’ll partner up with one of your colleagues as
a flight crew pair in a multi-engine jet simulator,
teaching you how to fly the aircraft in multi-crew
mode. Each crew will have 20 hours of instruction
in Airways Route Procedures, combining 10 hours
as Pilot Flying (PF) and 10 hours as Pilot Monitoring
(PM), flying in and out of high pressure airports
such as London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle,
Amsterdam Schiphol, New York JFK. This is meant to
familiarise you with unexpected real-life scenarios,
such as weather diversions, passenger medical
issues and technical component failures. The
objective is for you to learn how to resolve issues
by engaging with your Cabin Crew, Air Traffic
Control, Emirates Operations, Airport staff and other
stakeholders.
Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be
ready for the final part of the programme: The Line
Orientated Flying Training (LOFT).

Line Oriented
Flight Training
This is your final phase of instruction at
the Emirates Flight Training Academy.
The Line Oriented Flight Training
(LOFT) is your opportunity to put all
your training and experience into
practice, with 14 hours of flying in a
multi-engine in multi-crew mode.
What this course includes
_
You’ll operate the aircraft in both Pilot Flying (PF) and
Pilot Monitoring (PM) roles. This involves departures
and approaches in European airspace, communication
with Air Traffic Control and flying in extreme weather
conditions. Depending on the time of year you start
LOFT, you may get to experience reduced visibility
condition and cold weather operations, including
ice and snow-contaminated runways. Alternatively,
you’ll gain experience in hot and high-elevation
airports, familiarising you with restricted performance
concerns such conditions may bring.
When you have successfully completed the LOFT
phase, you’ll be ready to begin your flying career.
