HYDRO

Getting started

Project configuration
Define units basis – Mass or Volume
This permits the user to select either Mass or volume based units for the input dialogues. If
volumetric units are selected the data is automatically converted to mass bases for storage
and calculation.

Specify unit conversion to suit input data

You can specify the conversion unit for each of the unit classes to assist in data input
Ensure that you select the correct conversion unit for your previously selected basis

Some pre-defined values are supplied which can act as the basis for your conversion
selection. Once selected the conversion value and text description can be modified to suit
your preferences.
Hydrogen Targeting
Adding a hydrogen producer

Use the [Insert] button to create an item.

Is it a variable utility or a fixed process source? Variable utility are process such as a
hydrogen plant which can change its flowrate to meet demand. A fixed process is usually a
process operation that has fixed flowrate.
Adding a Hydrogen Consumer Unit

Use the [Insert] button to create an item. The net sink and source values are automatically
calculated.
Hydrogen Composite Curves
Hydrogen Surplus Cascade

This system requires more hydrogen due to deficit

Balancing the Hydrogen System

Select which source to use if multiple source available to pinch system.

The Hydrogen Network Environment

Interactive flow sheeting environment.

Add Connections Manually to Form the Network

Select source units using left mouse button. Keeping button pressed move mouse to sink
unit and then release left mouse button.
User Prompted If More Than One Source Available

The source unit (Hydrogen consumer) has both a high pressure (HP) and low pressure (LP)
source. You must select which source to use.
If Multiple Connections are From the Same Source the Split Fraction Needs to be
Specified

Double click on link leaving source (the selected link is highlighted with a “*”) to open split
fraction dialogue and enter the split fractions.

TRICK: Specify flowrate values required and it will back-calculate split fraction by
automatically normalising the input values
Once the Network is Complete It Can Be Simulated

The simulation report:

The simulated values are compared to the specified values

Feedback Message May Help in Highlighting Inconsistences in the Input Data
Designs to Achieve the Specified Objective Can Be Automatically Determined
User Constraints Can Be Sdded to Steer the Automated Design Process

These can be used to ban or force certain deign features.

Some of These Constraint Issues Can Be Resolved by Changing the Design Options
Details of the Options and Other Useful Information is Given in the Help
System

The help can be searched to find information on a topic of interest.
