By Rahul Tamar
In order to implement the newly introduced 10 percent quota for students belonging to
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Category, the number of eligible candidates for JEE
Advanced 2019 has been increased to 2, 45, 000. The April session of JEE Main 2019 is
being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) from April 7 to 12 (excluding April
11) at 470 centres. As per the information shared by the national testing agency, 9, 35, 741
candidates registered for Paper 1 of JEE Main 2019. The morning and evening shifts of JEE
Main 2019 exam has been successfully concluded on first 4 days (April 7, 8, 9 & 10). As we
all know the January session of JEE Main 2019 was successfully concluded from 8th to 12th
January. Candidates who appeared for JEE Main 2019 in January or April session (or both)
curiously want to know the answers to the following queries:
How will NTA prepare merit list for JEE Main 2019 as the exam conducted in two
sessions?
What will be the minimum marks required in JEE Main 2019 to qualify for JEE
Advanced 2019?

JEE Main 2019: Expected Qualifying Marks for JEE Advanced 2019
To determine shortlisted candidates for JEE Advanced 2019, the JEE Main appearing
candidates should score more than the minimum qualifying marks. Let’s know about the
factors that will affect the JEE Main 2019 cut-off this year.
The most important factor having an immediate effect on JEE Main cut off marks is level of
difficulty in JEE Main question paper. Therefore, we can estimate if the level of difficulty for
JEE Main is high then, the cut off marks will be low. As per students feedback who appeared
One of the biggest factors that affect the cut off marks of JEE Main is the number of students
applying and appearing for the exam. An increased number of candidates for JEE Main can
result in high cut off for the year and vice versa. As for JEE Main 2019, the number of
applicants has decreased by 5-8% as compared to last year. Therefore, we can expecta fall in
JEE Main cut off marks due to relatively less competition.
JEE Main 2019 Paper I: Memory Based Questions and Topics (April 9 & 8, All Shifts)
In order to implement the newly introduced 10 percent quota for students belonging to
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Category, approximately 25 per cent seats will be
added to ensure that the reservation does not disturb the existing quota for SC, ST and other
categories, as mentioned bythe Union HRD Minister Mr. PrakashJavdekar. As a result of this
decision, the number of eligible candidates has been increased to 2, 45, 000. Last year, only
2.24 lakh candidates were eligible to appear for the next stage i.e., JEE Advanced. Therefore,
due to increase in the number of candidates to be shortlisted for JEE Advanced, the cutoff
marks of JEE Main can be low in comparison with last year.

After analysing the cut off trends of JEE Main in previous years, we can see that the cut off
marks have fluctuated a lot. The minimum cut off marks for JEE Main 2017 was 81 marks
for general category students. On the other hand, the JEE Main 2018 cut off was dropped by
3 marks. Thus, the JEE Main cut-off is dropping year by year.
Considering all these factors as mentioned above and by looking at the previous years’ cut off
marks of JEE Main, we can determine the expected JEE Main cut off as under –
Conclusion:
This is only the expected JEE Main 2019 cut-off or qualifying marks to qualify for JEE
Advanced 2019. But for getting admission into their favourite NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, students
will have to score high rank in JEE Main 2019.
Today is the second day of JEE Main 2019 Paper 1 of April session. Students who only want
to qualify for JEE Advanced 2019, need to solve 30 questions correctly in JEE Main 2019
April exam. Check the strategy and planning to secure good rank.
A total of 90 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) from Maths, Physics and Chemistry will be
asked in JEE Main 2019 April exam. For each correct answer, candidates will be awarded 4
marks, while for every question which is attempted incorrectly, 1 mark will be deducted from
the total score. As per the analysis of previous years’ cut-off of JEE Main, appearing
candidates need to attempt only 30 questions correctly in April exam to qualify for JEE

First we go through the minimum marks required to qualify for JEE Advanced over the last
years.
From the above table it can be easily concluded that the minimum marks required to qualify
for JEE Advanced is increasing year by year. In 2015, the minimum marks required to
qualify for JEE Advanced was 105 for general category students. To get 105 students needed
to solve 27 questions only. As per experts, the minimum qualifying marks required in JEE
Main 2019 to qualify for JEE Advanced can’t be more than 100. Therefore, if students solve
30 questions correctly then they can easily qualify for JEE Advanced 2019.
Appearing candidates can go through the list of important chapters of Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics which will help them to solve 30 questions correctly in JEE Main 2019 April
exam.
Coordinate Geometry
Limits, Continuity and Differentiability
Integral Calculus
Complex numbers and Quadratic Equation
Mathematics Matrices and Determinants
Statistics and Probability
Three Dimensional Geometry
Vector Algebra
Conclusion:
Only those candidates who don’t want to take admission in any other college other than IITs,
can use this concept in upcoming JEE Main 2019. The target of solving 30 correct questions
will provide a plenty of time for candidates to attempt JEE Main Question Paper 20
