SOP FOR MATLAB 2018 INSTALLATION

About the Software:

MATLAB (matrix laboratory) is a multi-paradigm numerical computing Environment. A
proprietary programming language developed by Math works, MATLAB allows matrix
multiplications, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, the creation of
user interfaces, and interfacing with programs written in other languages, including C, C++,
C#, Java, Fortran, and Python.
Although MATLAB is intended primarily for numerical computing, an optional toolbox uses
the MuPAD symbolic engine, allowing access to symbolic computing abilities. An additional
package, Simulink, adds graphical multi-domain simulation and model-based design for
dynamic and embedded systems.
As of 2017, MATLAB has roughly 1 million users across industry and academia. MATLAB
users come from various backgrounds of engineering, science, and economics.
MATLAB R2018a is published on Feb23, 2018
MATLAB 2018a in MUJ:

MUJ has purchased a University License based MATLAB 2018a Software for all Faculties and
Students those who are interested to explore and launch themselves in the field of Academics
and Research using these Mathematical tool. Below are the steps and guidelines to install and
run MATLAB on the Desktop PC’s or Laptops of both Faculties and Students.

SIMPLE STEPS TO REGISTER, DOWNLOAD, INSTALL, ACTIVATE &

RUN MATLAB 2018a.

#STEP 1: REGISTRATION & DOWNLOADING

1. The MATLAB portal link has been given below. All you need is to just click on
the link. The MATLAB portal specifically customized for Manipal University
Jaipur will be opened (as shown below). In order to use MATLAB Software, one
must have a valid MATLAB account. If you already have a MATLAB account,
you can use that otherwise a new MATLAB account is required to be created.

The link is : http://www.mathworks.com/academia/tah-portal/manipal-

university-jaipur-40675938

2. For registration, first of all we need to go the portal Home Page and then click on
‘Get Started today’ under Download MATLAB option and when prompted for
‘Sign in’ we have to do that (if they already have a MATLAB Account) or else
we need to Create a new Account using our official E-mail ID, Password and
username (which we have to remember). This official Email ID must be either
xyz@jaipur.manipal.edu or xyz@muj.manipal.edu (for example). No other email
ID will be valid here for the registration.
3. The MATLAB Installation dump is available at ‘muj-1a-call1’ server that could
be accessed anywhere in the campus through wired (LAN) network.

To get access to the Server, we need to first press the combination of Windows +
R key to open the RUN command and then type \\muj-1a-call1 in the textfield.
After that when prompted for the credential, we need to provide the Username as
muj\cbi and password as muj#1234 to get access to the Server. After that, we
need to click on the Software Folder and inside that we need to click on
MATLAB 2018 folder. Inside that we have got 2 separate set up Folders in the
name of Disk 1 & Disk 2 (Total 12 GB). The two Folders Disk 1 & 2 contains an
ISO Image file that has to be mounted in order to install the Software. In some
Windows esp. Windows 7, direct Mount option isn’t available so for that there is
a software named ‘‘winiso’’ they the user need to install & run and after that only
they can able to Mount those ISO Images of Disk 1 first & then Disk 2.
#STEP 2: INSTALLATION & ACTIVATION

1. For installation, as mentioned in the above steps, first they need to mount Disk 1 File
(if mount option isn’t available we need to provide it through ‘winiso’ software). In
order to Mount the ISO File, first we need to click on Open File in ‘winiso’ page and
then select the requited ISO image file (which can be in the form of RAR file also) from
the location where it is kept and after selecting it, we need to select the setup file from
the list of files being displayed in ‘winiso’ page and finally click on Mount option &
then open the file in Explorer to Mount the file.
2. After the Mount is successful, we need to go to the CD/DVR drive option and right click on it
to Run the set up. After clicking on next, the installer will ask to select any of the 2 options:
Either to Log in with Math Work Account or to use a File Installation key and the user need to
select the first option (most preferably).

3. After selecting it & signing on the agreement it will prompt for the credential (Registered E-
mail ID & Password), which the user need to provide if they already have one or else they need
to create a new Account using their official E-mail ID.
4. After Login into the MATLAB Account, the installer will ask the user to select the required
Products to be installed for their usage. Here, we can either select all the Products or only the
selected products that is necessary depending on our Domain or the purpose for which we are
using the Software and then after selecting it we can proceed further. After going through two
more steps where it will ask to select the License (with License number already mentioned) and
then clicking on next to initiate the installation.
5. Then almost at the 3/5 stage of Installation (nearby 60 %), it will ask to unmount Disk 1 and
Mount Disk 2 which is done exactly to finish up the installation. After the installation, it asks
for the Activation which is done by providing the system User name (e.g. : shubhajitp). And
with these steps, the Installation & Activation of MATLAB 2018a is complete.
#STEP 3: RUNNING/LAUNCHING

1. Once, the MATLAB Installation & Activation steps are complete, now it’s time to Run
the Software. For doing that, the User can go to their Windows Start Button and search
for MATLAB2018a icon or else they can directly get that from their Desktop with the
Shortcut Icon being created. They can even pin the Icon to their Taskbar Menu for the
quicker access if they want to.

2. After clicking on that Icon, the MATLAB2018a logo will appear on the Screen, after
which the Home page will open and there you go. Finally, the User is ready to use and
Enjoy MATLAB2018a.
3. In case, the Software doesn’t start even after Installing and Running it, there might be
an issue with the Licensing of the Software. In fact, it displays the same error message
related to ‘License checkout Fail’. In that case, no need to panic because the issue might
have occurred due to the User name/Email-ID not getting properly synchronized with
the License. Or else the Password that the User is entering might be incorrect. In any
such scenarios, ensure that the User has entered the Registered credentials (User name,
E-mail ID & Password) during Activation of the Software. If not, then either they have
to perform the Activation steps again or else in case they forget their registered
Credential due to some reason, they have to Re-create their account and perform the
same steps all over again to ensure their Activation is Successful this time. After that
only, they can finally open and run the Software Successfully.

#UNINSTALLING STEPS:

If we already have an existing MATLAB software of some older version installed in our
System, we can choose to Uninstall it first before installing the existing/latest version and it
is always safer & wiser to do that so that it won’t create any problem during fresh
Installation. For doing that:

1. First we need to go to the Control Panel and under Programs option, we select
‘Uninstall a Program’. Then in the list of Programs/Software’s installed in our
System we select MATLABxxxxx (here xxxxx is the version no.) and then simply
click on Uninstall. After a while, MATLAB older version will be uninstalled and
now we are ready to install the required version of the Software.
2. Another important step that we need to follow is that after Uninstallation, we need
to do the Program Files/Program Filesx86 under C: and then select MATLAB
Folder and delete it or delete all the old file inside that folder so that while fresh
installation it won’t create any issue for the Path selection.

ENJOY MATLAB!
