1. SCOPE :
This procedure governs the use of Low Voltage Wet Sponge Holiday Detector for
finding disconuities such as nicks, scrapes and pinholes in the coating film inside
the tanks at Wasit Gas Program. This shall be used on coating upto 20 mils (500
microns) in thickness. This procedure shall comply the requirements of Saudi
Aramco Project Specifications, SSPC and Data Sheets.

2. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS:
32–SAMSS–005, Manufacture of Atmospheric Tanks.
API-650, Welded Steel Tanks for Oil Storage.
SAES–H–100, Coating Materials & Application Requirements for Industrial Facilities.

SAES-H-001, Coating Selection &Application Requirements for Industrial Plants &

Equipment.

Data Sheet.

3. DEFINITIONS:
Owner : Saudi Aramco
Contractor : SK Engineering & Construction
Sub-Contractor : Al-Khodari Heavy Industries

4. RESPONSIBILITY:
Holiday testing shall be done by qualified QC personnel. Repair work shall be
done by qualified group in accordance with the approved painting procedure and
shall be re – tested.

5. INSPECTION BEFORE LINING APPLICATION:

The following shall be checked before lining application:
5.1 The surfaces shall be continuous.
5.2 Surfaces shall be compact.
5.3 Surfaces shall be smooth.
5.4 Surfaces shall be free from cavities.
5.5 No weld spatters.
5.6 All edges shall be round up with minimum 5mm radius.

6. INSPECTION DURING LINING APPLICATION:

The following shall be checked during lining application:
6.1 Visual Inspection of the surface shall meet grade as per data sheet and general
arrangement drawing.
6.2 Blasting profile shall be checked by “Testex Tape”.
6.3 Painting material shall be checked and documented.
6.4 Over coating time shall be checked and shall meet the technical data sheet of the
Paint Manufacture.
6.5 Product dilution shall be checked.
6.6 Meteorological and environment conditions shall be checked.
6.7 Wet lining thickness shall be checked.
6.8 All the testing gauges shall have valid calibration date.

7. INSPECTION AFTER LINING APPLICATION:

The following shall be checked after lining application:
7.1 Visual Inspection of lined surfaces shall be checked.
7.2 Dry film thickness of lined surfaces shall be checked.
7.3 All coated tanks shall be holiday checked using a wet sponge at 67.5 volts if
coating thickness does not exceed 500 microns. A small amount of a wetting
agent shall be added to the water to aid in finding holidays. Holidays shall be
repaired in accordance with SAES-H-001,Paragraph 8.5.

7.4 The full coat of the repair coating shall be holiday tested when cured.
7.5 Adhesion test as per ASTM D-3359 shall be carried out.

8. QA/QC FORMS:

8.1 All holiday testing results shall be recorded in the applicable forms.
9. SAFETY:

9.1 Requirements of safety are in accordance to KHI Safety plan and Saudi Aramco Safety
