3. ESSENTIAL PARTS OF E-BALL

3.1 Virtual keyboard:-

A virtual keyboard is a software component that allows a user to enter characters.
A virtual keyboard is a projection keyboard that is projected and touched on any
flat surface. These Virtual laser keyboard works by using sensor technology and
artificial intelligence to let user work on any flat surface. The device detects the
movement of fingers when they are pressed down. The movement of fingers is
measured and the device accurately determines the pressed keystrokes and at the
same time it translates them into text. Reasons to use the Virtual Keyboard.

• When connected to your handheld computer it is more convenient to carry around

than your laptop.

• It takes up less desk space than a conventional keyboard.

• You could use it with your desktop, laptop or handheld computer.

3.2 Virtual keyboard basically consists of three components.

The Sensor Module:-

The sensor module serves as the eyes of the Keyboard Perception technology. The
Sensor Module operates by locating the user's fingers in3-D space and tracking the
intended keystroke.

11
Fig:-Sensor

IR(Infrared light )Light Source:- Infrared (IR) light is the part of the EMI spectrum
that people encounter most in everyday life, although much of it goes unnoticed. It
is invisible to human eyes, but people can feel it as heat. The light which is
generated from IR-Light source is not visible to the user. The IR-Light source
emits a ray of infrared light.

3.3 The Pattern Projector:-

The pattern projector basically presents the image of the keyboard. This image can
be projected on any flat surface. The projected image is that of a standard keyboard
with all the keys and control functions.

3.4 Projector: -
E-ball Technology basically use a LCD projector to Project an image on screen or
flat surface. In LCD projector video signal are comprised of three colors: red,
green, blue. Generally there are two types of projector used:-

12
3.5 LCD Projector:-
LCD projector is a type of projector based on liquid crystal displays which can
display images, data or video on screen or flat screen. An LCD projector works on
transmissive technology. LCD projectors are more popular than many alternatives
because it is cheaper to produce and have excellent color reproduction. They are
commonly used in business meetings, presentations and seminars. An LCD
projector allows the source light to pass through the three colored liquid crystal
display light panels. The panels in turn allow some colors to pass through and
block some colors to form the images on the screen. Benefit of LCD.

Fig:- LCD Projector

13
3.6 Feature of LCD Projector:-
1) It has low-priced.

2) It can also provide greater brightness with lower energy consumption.

3) This projectors do not suffer from rainbow effects and dithering.

4) It provides greater zoom magnification.

3.7 Drawback of LCD Projector:

1) If an LCD projector is used frequently over a long period of time, image

degradation is possible, and they also heat up more quickly than DLP projectors.

2) The life time of LCD panel is limited.

3) They do not have high contrast.

14
4. DLP PROJECTOR:-

DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology uses micro-mirrors to project images

from a monitor onto a large screen. DLP is seen in standalone projection units, in
rear projection TVs, and in a majority of digital cinema projection.

4.1 Benefit of DLP Projector:-

1) DLP projectors require less maintenance than LCD projectors because they have
a filter-free and sealed chip design, which means dust cannot settle on the chip and
cause an image spot.

2) They are not subject to the misalignments that can occur in LCD projectors.

4.3 Drawback of DLP Projector:-

1) It provide less zoom magnification so, it is best suited for small environment.

2) Its Price is high as compared to LCD Projector.

15
5. WORKING ELEMENT OF E-BALL:-

5.1Working of Display unit:-

When the stand has been opened and the system has been turned on, it becomes
functional only when the screen or the display unit is available. The display unit is
not physically present or attached on to the E-BALL. Rather, with the help of the
projector popping up out of the E-BALL PC, the display unit can be projected on
to the wall which can work as screen.

5.2 If There Is No Wall?

The real problem arises if there is no wall to work as a screen. In case we are
working in an open place without any wall, then we can use a sheet of paper to
work as screen for us. The sheet holder is on the back of the E-BALL, and can be
opened by pressing it on its lower part. As it pops up, it gets divided into three
parts like an umbrella and the sheet can be placed on it to work as screen.
The opening of the sheet holder is as shown on the next page in a figure:

If there is no wall???

Fig:- Paper Screen

16
5.3 Virtual laser Keyboard:-

The E-BALL PC has a laser keyboard which is concept keyboard which is visible
only when the PC is in working mode. The keyboard is not physical rather it is
interpreted by lasers which comes into play when the respective button is pressed.
It recognizes your fingers with the help of your Infrared sensors when you are
typing at a particular place. The Virtual Laser Keyboard (VKB) leverages the
power of laser and infrared technology and projects a full-size keyboard onto any
flat surface.

Virtual keyboard and Optical mouse

17
5.4 Optical Mouse:-

Also there is an optical mouse which is normally attached to the body of the E-
BALL. The mouse can be detached from the body of the E-BALL by pressing the
mouse detaching button on the left hand side of the PC body at the front (when the
mouse is attached to the E-BALL). To get a clear understanding of the mouse,
detaching button and also its location on the E-BALL PC, a picture is provided
below:

Fig:-Optical Mouse

18
6. THE SOFTWARE INTERFACE:-

The software interface of the E-BALL PC is highly stylized with icons that support
all types of Windows operating system. Also, the icons can be easily remembered
and are easy to use. So the interface is very user friendly. The various icons that
are available on the display screen on the left hand side are as shown below in the
picture.

Fig:- Software Interface

19
7. PROS OF E-BALL

• The E-ball PC is smaller in size and spherical in shape so, it is portable and each
to carry from one place to another.

• E-Ball has large memory so we can store large amount of data in it.

• Useful for making video presentations.

• The speed of E-ball is high.

• It supports user-defined keyboard layouts

• It is efficient.

• It is more secure than other computer.

 We can use E-ball where there is no wall also.

8. CONS OF E-BALL

• Normal OS can’t work in these computers.

• Cost of E-Ball is very high.

• It is difficult to understand if any problems occur in hardware components and to

recover it.

20
9. ELEMENTS OF E-BALL

Aren’t you tired of your PC? By his ugly shape and the way that it looks? Well,
this is exactly what designer Apostol Tnokovski was feeling when he decided to
create the smallest PC ever made. It’s not going to be like a PDA, it’s going to be a
PC with all conventional components (mouse, keyboard, normal screen). The
concept PC is called E-Ball and it’s shaped like a sphere because in Tnokovski’s
opinion this is the best shape in nature and it draws everybody’s attention.E-Ball
will feature a dual core processor, 250-500GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, integrated
graphic card and sound card, 2 x 50W speakers, HD-DVD recorder, wireless
optical mouse and laser keyboard, LAN and WLAN card, modem, Web cam and
integrated LCD projector.

Fig:-Elements of E-Ball

It contains wireless optical mouse and laser keyboard, and LCD projector. It has
around 350-600GB of Hard Disk Drive. It contains 5GB RAM. It has two 50W
speakers. It has LAN and WLAN card and a Web cam. When you want to carry it
21
around you can easily “pack it” into a ball. This is a futuristic concept, and this, I
think, is how the future computers will look like. This device has an optical
keyboard and a holographic display. So you don’t have a physical keyboard and no
monitor! Still, the mouse is physical but it fits in to the computer when you want to
carry it around. The bad thing about using a virtual keyboard is that you need a
smooth surface, otherwise I don’t know how you will be able to use it. It is strange
enough to call this device a computer, because it is so small, but as far as I know it
doesn’t lack any hardware part and tends to be a future machine found in any
house or office. I don’t know exactly how this computer will be powered but I
think it will have a powerful battery so you will have a great stand by time.

22
10. FEATURES OF E-BALL

 It contains wireless optical mouse and laser keyboard, and LCD projector.

 It has around 350-600GB of Hard Disk Drive.

 It contains 2GB RAM.

 It has two 50W speakers.

 Checks lighting of room using sensors and adjusts the projection light
intensity accordingly.

 It has LAN and WLAN card and a Web cam.

 It is small in size so it is easy to carry.

 The keyboard is a virtual one not a physical keyboard and it is available only
when the E-BALL pc is working mode

 The display is also a holographic display and any wall or a sheet of paper
can work as display screen.

23
11. WORKING OF E-BALL

E Ball concept pc don't have any external display unit,it has a button when you
press this button a projector will pop and it focus the computer screen on the wall
which can be adjusted with navigation keys. If there is no wall then it has a paper
sheet holder that divides into three pieces like an umbrella jus/t after popping up,
and it will show desktop on the paper sheet. Also, the E-Ball PC supports a paper
holder and the paper sheet on the holder could act like a screen where you can
watch movies or something. This concept PC will measure 160mm in diameter and
it was designed for Microsoft Windows OS, sorry about the others. For the
moment there is no word on pricing or when it’s going to be available, however, I
am sure that everybody would like to see a small spherical PC like this one.

Fig:- E-Ball Element

24
E-Ball concept pc has a laser keyboard that is fully a concept keyboard that is
visible when the pc is in working. The keyboard is not physical - it is interpreted
by lasers that appear after you press the respective button. It recognizes your
fingers with the help of an IR sensor when you are typing at a particular place,
while the mouse is a pop out wonder making this an exiting piece of technology.

The software interface of E-Ball concept pc is highly stylized with icons that can
be remembered easily that support all type of windows operating system. E-Ball
concept pc work very easy while you are making video presentations, listening
music watching large screen movies, and chatting on the net.

As years passes, the computer size is becoming smaller. This ball is known as E-
Ball and its design is given by Apostol Tnokovski. He was trying to create the
smallest PC in the world when he came across this idea.It is shaped like a sphere
because in Tnokovski’s opinion this is the best shape in nature and it draws
everybody’s attention. you'll see the pop-out laser mouse, a pico projector inside
that illuminates either the wall or a sheet of paper for a screen, and that laser
keyboard that would almost certainly be a clumsy input device.

Fix that, and find a motherboard that’ll fit inside this palm-sized baby, and Apostol
might be onto something here.E-Ball will feature a dual core processor, 250-
500GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, integrated graphic card and sound card, 2 x 50W
speakers, HD-DVD recorder, wireless optical mouse and laser keyboard, LAN and
WLAN card, modem, Web cam and integrated LCD projector.

25
