INSPECTION REPORT OF CABLE STAY BRIDGE AT KAMLA PARK BHOPAL

1- General

Project : Construction of Cable Stay Bridge at Kamla Park, Bhopal, India

2- Inspection

With reference to the “Inspection and Maintenance Manual” of the project (DSI document no. “15 03 02 –
400) Routine Inspection at the end of 1st year was conducted on 13th July 2018. The synopsis of the
Inspection and Maintenance manual are reproduced below:

2.1 Routine/ Visual Inspection

Visual inspection of all the accessible components for all 32 cables was carried out by our team and our
observations are as under.

2.1.1 Anchorages & Ring Nut:

All the anchorages were visually inspected and found in order. However, the corrosion protection
compound in the anchorages through the threads of ring nuts was found to be slightly oozing out of the
ring nut. The compound was in dry state presently and it could be a result of melting of excess compound
on the ring nut. It was observed in 60% of the anchorages which were cleaned after inspection.

2.1.2 CAP A

Cap A which is fixed on live end side of the cables were visually inspected and looked absolutely fine.
Bolts used for fixing of Cap A to ring nut were found in order and did not show any sign of rust for most
of the cables. In few cables the Bolts were found to be slightly rusted and should be replaced. Minor
leakage of corrosion protection compound was observed from the stopper plugs located at the back plate
of the CAP A and same was also cleaned.

2.1.3 HDPE Pipe

HDPE Sheathing were inspected visually at close range and were found in order. Moreover, Helix
welded with HDPE sheathing were also found to be in order.

2.1.4 Dyna Link Anchor Box

Inspection of Anchor box and Anchorages on Pylon side was inspected from the ground. It was observed
that some of the anti-corrosive compound NONTRIBOS has melted and was found lying over the Anchor
Box no. 2 ,3 & 4 from the top. Probably, reason for this compound lying over Anchor Box is excessive
NONTRIBOS 100/95 (Wax Plate) filled in the Anchorages.

2.2 Conclusion

During the first annual routine visual inspection it was observed that all the inspected components are in
good condition. However, corrosion protection compound was found slightly melting from the components
like Anchorage, CAP and Anchor box. The components at the deck were thoroughly cleaned during the
inspection. Nothing alarming was found which need immediate attention.
