Training Session Planning Sheet

Session Title: COLLEGE STUDENTS- HOW THEM INVOLVED IN AND EXCITED


ABOUT YOUR MISSION
Target audience & likely size of group: New Creation Volunteers, 5-10 people
Date: April 7, 2019
Start time: 3 pm
Length of Training: 60 minutes

Rationale:
New Creation has an incredible team and an inspiring mission, but they are lacking in
reaching out to as many college students as possible. Our mission is get students
involved with New Creation: whether it is by informing them what New Creation is,
getting them involved as volunteers, co-sponsoring events with student organizations,
and promote New Creation’s items and pop up shops.

Overall Objectives:
● Discover how to strategically use their knowledge of and passion about New
Creation’s mission to attract college students and get them involved

Specific Objectives: After our training, participants will be able to:

1. Have a casual dialogue in which the mission and vision of New Creation is
shared with another individual
2. Communicate and sell their brand, mission and products with students and
young adults
3. Partner with student organizations and groups to expand student outreach
and influence
4. Utilize social media to better engage and connect with target market

Training Strategies/Activities: (chronological flow, describing major points of


content and activities)

Icebreaker (we will participate):


● Idea 1: m&m question game
○ Relate questions to New Creation as well
○ Debrief: interacting with and sharing with new people of different ages
and stages of life can be intimidating, but you all just exhibited an
example of stepping out of your comfort zone
● Questions:
○ Brown- What brought you to getting involved with New Creation?
○ Yellow- What is your favorite memory of interacting with customers of
New Creation?
○ Orange- What is your favorite product New Creation sells?
○ Green- Where are you from? What led you to Harrisonburg?
○ Blue- Why are you passionate about the mission of new creation?
○ Red- When you aren’t volunteering, what are some of your favorite
hobbies?

Prior Knowledge Discussion-


● Do you feel like your are able to share about your involvement in New
Creation and their mission in day-to-day conversation?

Content:
● Cultivating a personal brand how to incorporate mission into day-to-day
conversations
○ Find your target- what are you shooting for?
○ Be all about your mission- know it. Believe in it. Share it.
○ Find your strengths- how best do YOU communicate?
○ Be unique- Find what makes YOU and YOUR mission/brand different

Role Play Activity:


● Day-to-day conversation
○ Attendees will get into pairs and commence a casual conversation, in
which they will practice weaving the mission of New Creation and their
involvement with it

Content:
● How to present your mission to appeal to students
○ Make a video
○ Visit classes
○ Consider their budgets
○ Start small reach a few students
○ Find student ambassadors
○ Offer student discounts
○ Place ad or flyers in newspapers and throughout campus
○ Host a giveaway
○ Target on social media
○ Put together a survival pack

Discussion:
Facilitate a brainstorm of ways volunteers could formulate a presentation to a
class/student group

Prior Knowledge Discussion: What organizations do you all think would be interested
in New Creation and what events are you interested in pursuing?
Content:
● On-campus partnerships
○ Reach out to organizations whose mission aligns with yours
○ Partner up with an organization to create staple events that are unique
to you
○ Sell at popular events that occur on-campus

● How comfortable are you all with presenting your personal brand on social
media?

Content:
● Social Media Promotion

Conclusion:
● Have a deliverable sheet and people write what their personal goals are for
sharing the mission of New Creation with college students and others

Evaluation:
We will ask questions regarding their personal knowledge on the subject we plan to
talk about before begin each activity. Following each activity we will have a
debriefing and give the volunteers the ability to ask questions. This will give them
time to ask any clarifying questions that they have. Following the completion of the
training, we will ask participants to fill out the google form evaluation we have created
(link below), which will allow us to see how they viewed the presentation as a whole.

Environment: Describe the layout of the training environment and what tools you will
have to use.

Training will take place in Madison Union and participants will be seated in a semi-
circle. We will be providing the participants with note taking materials to take notes
throughout the session. Though presentation slides will be used to display key
concepts, participants will be provided handouts with key takeaways after the training
session is over.
