arrangement feedwater pumps, controls, and the following features and accessories:

a. Dial-type thermometer graduated in both Fahrenheit and Celsius.

b. Gage glass with stops at top and bottom.
c. Inlet strainer.
d. Lifting eyes.
e. Companion flanges.
f. Pump-discharge check valve.
g. Pump-discharge pressure gauge.
h. Pump-suction isolation valve.
i. Pump-discharge isolation valve.
j. Makeup-Water Assembly: Electric level switch and piston-operated, packless, solenoid
valve; inlet strainer; and three-valve bypass.
k. Feedwater Heater: Sparge tube, thermostat, and control valve.
l. Factory-Furnished Pipe, DN 65 (NPS 2-1/2) and Smaller: ASTM A 53/A53M, Type S
(seamless), Grade B; or ASTM A 106/A 106M, Type S, Grade B, Schedule 80, with
threaded joints and malleable-iron fittings of class to match pressure rating of pipe.

1) Malleable-Iron Threaded Fittings: ASME B16.3, Class 300.

2) Malleable-Iron Unions: ASME B16.39; Class 300.

m. Factory-Furnished Pipe, DN 75 (NPS 3) and Larger: ASTM A 53/A 53M, Type E (electric-
resistance welded), Grade B; or ASTM A 106/A 106M, Type S, Grade B Schedule 80, with
welded joints and carbon-steel fittings and flanges of class to match pressure rating of pipe.

1) Wrought-Steel Fittings: ASME B16.9, wall thickness to match adjoining pipe.

2) Wrought Cast- and Forged-Steel Flanges and Flanged Fittings: ASME B16.5,
Class 300, including bolts, nuts, and gaskets.

2. Receiver Material: Welded steel.

a. Finish: Epoxy coated with electrolytic corrosion inhibitor anode.

b. Arrangement: Floor mounted.
c. Factory-Applied Insulation and Jacket: Minimum thickness of 50 mm (2 inches) for
mineral-fiber pipe and tank insulation. Cover insulation with stucco-embossed aluminum
jacket.
d. Mounting Frame: Structural-steel stand to support receiver and pumps. Fabricate stand
with bracing adequate for seismic forces according to authorities having jurisdiction
and to allow anchoring mounting frame to floor.

3. Horizontal Feedwater Pump: Base-mounted, single or multistage, radially split case design
centrifugal pump; rated for 1200-kPa (175-psig) minimum working pressure and a continuous water
temperature of 107 deg C (225 deg F); with the following features:

a. Impeller: Stainless steel.

b. Coupling: Flexible.
c. Seals: Mechanical.
d. Motor: Totally enclosed fan cooled.

4. Feedwater Pump Control Panel: Unit mounted, factory wired, panel shall be able to communicate
with Building Management System as described in BMS specification. Communications shall
include status and control; Control panel to include the following:

a. NEMA 250, Type 2 enclosure.

b. Combination magnetic starters for each pump, with three overload relays, circuit breaker,
and cover interlock.
c. Numbered terminal block.
d. Removable control mounting plate.
e. Electric alternator for duplex units.
f. Pilot lights for pump running and alarm.
g. Alarm bell and silence switch.
h. Elapsed-time run meter, graduated in hours.
i. Fused control-circuit transformer.

5. Feedwater Pump Control Sequence: Boiler water-level controller starts lead pump; alternator
switches lead and lag pumps after each cycle. Low-level receiver float switch opens makeup-water
solenoid valve. Visual indications of pumps on and off status, lead/lag status, and alarm indication
of pump failure.

PART 3: EXECUTION

1.1 EXAMINATION

1. Examine equipment foundation and anchor-bolt locations for compliance with requirements for
installation and other conditions affecting performance.

2. Examine roughing-in for condensate return piping systems to verify actual locations of piping
connections before equipment installation.

3. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

1.2 INSTALLATION

1. Install unit level and plumb and to permit access for maintenance.

2. Support piping independent of pumps.

3. Install base-mounted pumps on concrete bases with grouted base frames.

4. Install parts and accessories shipped loose.

1.3 CONNECTIONS

1. Piping installation requirements are specified in other Sections. Drawings indicate general
arrangement of piping, fittings, and specialties.

2. Install piping adjacent to machine to allow service and maintenance.

3. Connect makeup-water piping and cooling-water piping with reduced-pressure backflow preventers.

4. Install overflow drain piping to nearest floor drain.

5. Install vents and extend to outdoors; terminate with elbow turned down and install an insect screen.

6. Ground equipment.
