At an age where everything is going online and people are buying almost everything from
grocery to gadgets on web stores, it is time that the medical and pharmaceutical market catches
up to the trend and indeed it has. You can now fulfill all your medicinal needs online, at well, an
online pharmacy.

Legal status in India

The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and its given rules, have placed regulations on the sale of
Schedule H and Schedule X drugs, which can be sold only with a legal prescription. Therefore,
in India, where online pharmacy is taking over, the government’s laws have kept up; making sure
no illegal drug usage is practiced online. Ayurveda and nutraceuticals also have laws that govern
and regulate their usage.

Formalities to be made when opening an online pharmacy

As stated above, certain laws are to be followed while opening an online pharmacy and these
rules are quite stringent.

All laws have been well established and any online pharmacy must comply with all the rules and
regulations, however, there are many loopholes that these pharmacies are utilizing for their profit
and illegal drugs have been on the rise.

Because of its vastness, medical laws cannot be all encompassing hence causing circulation of
illegal drugs and pharmaceuticals.

An online pharmacy in India can be a successful venture if it can lure its local audience by
Making them familiar with the fact that ‘medicine eCommerce’ exist Ensuring them that
payments on such site is comfortable and safe Offering competitive discounts similar to that of
physical chemist stores Keeping medicines of reputed brands Housing other healthcare products

E-commerce is the activity of buying or selling online. Electronic commerce draws on

technologies such as mobile commerce, electronic funds transfer, supply chain management,
Internet marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), inventory
management systems, and automated data collection systems.

E-commerce businesses may also employ some or all of the followings:

 Online shopping for retail sales direct to consumers via Web sites and mobile apps, and
conversational commerce via live chat, chatbots, and voice assistants,

 Providing or participating in online marketplaces, which process third-party business-to-

consumer or consumer-to-consumer sales,

 Business-to-business buying and selling,

 Gathering and using demographic data through web contacts and social media,

 Business-to-business (B2B) electronic data interchange,

 Marketing to prospective and established customers by e-mail or fax (for example, with
newsletters),

 Engaging in pretail for launching new products and services,

 Online financial exchanges for currency exchanges or trading purposes.

CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR

Meaning and Definition:

Consumer behaviour is the study of how individual customers, groups or organizations select,
buy, use, and dispose ideas, goods, and services to satisfy their needs and wants. It refers to the
actions of the consumers in the marketplace and the underlying motives for those actions.

7
Marketers expect that by understanding what causes the consumers to buy particular goods and
services, they will be able to determine—which products are needed in the marketplace, which
are obsolete, and how best to present the goods to the consumers.

According to Louden and Bitta, ‘consumer behaviour is the decision process and physical
activity, which individuals engage in when evaluating, acquiring, using or disposing of goods
and services’.

 The study of consumer behaviours helps business manager, sales person and marketers in
the following way.

1. To design the best possible product or service that fully satisfies consumer's needs and
demands.

2. To decide where the service or product would be made available for easy access of
consumers.

3. To decide the price at which the consumers would be ready to buy that product or service.

4. To find out the best method of promotion that will prove to be effective to attract
customers to buy a product.

5. To understand why, when, how, what and other factors that influence buying decision of
the consumers.

 The following are some of the points discussed that explains the value to marketers of
understanding and applying consumer behaviour concepts and theories.

6. To understand Buying Behaviour of consumers

7. To create and retain customers though online stores

8. To Understand the factors influencing Consumer's buying Behaviour

9. To understand the consumer's decision to dispose a product or services

10. To increase the knowledge of sales person influence consumer to buy product

E-PHARMACY

An online pharmacy, Internet pharmacy, or mail-order pharmacy is a pharmacy that operate

over the internet and sends the orders to customers through the mail or shipping companies.
Online pharmacies might include:
 Pharmacy benefit Manager – A large administrator of corporate prescription drug plans
 Legitimate Internet pharmacy in the same country as the person ordering.
8
 Legitimate Internet pharmacy in a different country than the person ordering. This pharmacy
usually is licensed by its home country and follows those regulations, not those of the
international orders.
 Illegal or unethical internet pharmacy. The web page for an illegal pharmacy may contain lies
about its home country, procedures, or certifications. The "pharmacy" may send outdated
(expired shelf life) or counterfeit medication and may not follow normal procedural
safeguards.

Risks and concerns

 Illegal or unethical pharmacies sometimes send outdated, substituted, or counterfeit
medications.
 Sometimes an online pharmacy may not be located in the country that is claimed. For
example, one study of drug shipments claiming to be from Canada revealed many actually
originated in several different countries and were often bogus medications
 Minors or children can order controlled substances without adult supervision.
Other concerns include potential lack of confidentiality, improper packaging, inability to check
for drug interactions, and several other issues.

RATIONALE FOR CHOOSING THE TOPIC

I have choosen this topic "consumer behaviour on e-pharmacy" tp know the consumer awareness
and their behaviour towards e-pharmacy. Consumer awareness is defined as below:

"The understanding by an individual of their rights as a consumer concerning available products

and services being marketed and sold. The concept involves four categories including safety,

9
choice, information, and the right to be heard. The first declaration of consumer rights was
established in the US in 1962."

At an age where everything is going online and people are buying almost everything from
grocery to gadgets on web stores, it is time that the medical and pharmaceutical market catches
up to the trend and indeed it has. You can now fulfill all your medicinal needs online, at well, an
online pharmacy.

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of this study are as follow:

 To study the behaviour of consumer on e-pharmacy

 To study the awareness among the consumer about e-pharmacy

 To study that the consumer are satisfied using e-commerce platform

 To study the importance of pharmacy for consumer

ABOUT THE TOPIC

and illegal drugs have been on the rise.

Because of its vastness, medical laws cannot be all encompassing hence causing circulation of
illegal drugs and pharmaceuticals.

How many online pharmacies are present (current situation):

The number cannot be exactly estimated, however, based on a search, around 3000 online
pharmacies were found, and half of them were based in the USA and 19% in UK and the balance
in other countries like India, Canada, etc. In another finding, B-2-B companies also offered
online pharmaceuticals of which 19% are from India.

All the western countries are very fondly using this amazing facility. Also, in India, the growth of
online Pharmacy is significantly escalating. Though India will have to work harder in convincing
people about the originality of drugs, the scope of online pharmacy in India is still vast.

An online pharmacy in India can be a successful venture if it can lure its local audience by

Making them familiar with the fact that ‘medicine eCommerce’ exist

Ensuring them that payments on such site is comfortable and safe

Offering competitive discounts similar to that of physical chemist stores

Keeping medicines of reputed brands

Housing other healthcare products for buying

Offering a liberty to choose the type of payment option depending on individual convenience

Delivering the service to every part of India.

Recent developments and solutions

In a shocking turn of events, the Maharashtra’s FDA ministry filed a case on the CEO SnapDeal,
for the sale of prescription drugs online through their e-commerce website, which is a giant in
other e-shopping goods, stating that SnapDeal cannot act as a doctor. A very simple, yet daunting
solution may be to enforce stringent laws on all these online pharmacies, making sure that no
illegal drug (not even a trace) is found.

Even after so many challenges to face in Indian Online Market, there some website that are
doing a great job in online pharmacy and offering wonderful services following all the legal
formalities. As a user, one can easily rely on the website after checking their online reviews from
the user. It is very safe to buy medicines on such pharmacy. Also, there is a way to find if the
online pharmacy is fully legal and sell 100% original drugs.

CHAPTER-3
FINDING & ANALYSIS

PRIMARY DATA

Primary data means original data that has been collected specially for the purpose in mind. It
means someone collected the data from the original source first hand. Data collected this way is
called primary data. Research where one gathers this kind of data is referred to as field research.

Primary data is information that you collect specifically for the purpose of your research project.
An advantage of primary data is that it is specifically tailored to your research needs. A
disadvantage is that it is expensive to obtain.

QUESTIONNAIRE
A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions (or other types of
prompts) for the purpose of gathering information from respondents. The questionnaire was invented
by the Statistical Society of London in 1838.
Although questionnaires are often designed for statistical analysis of the responses, this is not always
the case.
Questionnaires have advantages over some other types of surveys in that they are cheap, do not
require as much effort from the questioner as verbal or telephone surveys, and often have
standardized answers that make it simple to compile data. However, such standardized answers may
frustrate users. Questionnaires are also sharply limited by the fact that respondents must be able to
read the questions and respond to them. Thus, for some demographic groups conducting a survey by
questionnaire may not be concrete.

CHAPTER-4
CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS

 E-pharmacy is not famous as very less promotion is done. So, the first focus of all
e-pharmacy must be promotion because without awareness no one will ever use it
or will show any interest to use it.

 For promotions they should not only focus on young generation but also the old
generation as medicine is such a thing that is most used by the old generations of
the country.

 Promotion should involve all types of promotion. For example, for focusing on
youth online surfing & television advertisements are the best. But to focus on old
generations newspaper is the best method.

 So, for spreading awareness of e-pharmacy one must first focus on promotion
type.

 There are many people who are aware of the e-pharmacy but they don’t use any as
they do not find e-pharmacy useful. So, for making it useful one must take some
measures such as offer, discounts, fast delivery, free consultancy & many more.

 E-pharmacy must provide all relevant details of the medicine. No detail should be
missed. As it is about the health of one person.

 E-pharmacy should also provide all details of any medicine as it is related to the
awareness of the consumer.
