Storyline:

Vihaan, an 18 year old student who is living in the USA, is being forced to marry his cousins, but
he has a girl that he likes/loves. Noah, a Asian mixed white, studies with Vihaan at University Of
Pittsburgh, studying philosophy, while Noah studies acting, directing and script writing. They fall
in love quickly at first glance. They have common attractions. But something separated them.
They parents were skin and racially biased. Noah’s parents were devoted christians, against
mixed marriages and wanted their daughter to get married to a man of the same race.On the
other hand, Vihaan’s father (mother less) were strictly against the ‘white people’ due to their
heritage and culture which goes against the Indians culture.
In order to keep their relationship discreet, they use code names for each other and meet and
the same spot where their parents won’t know. One day Noah’s younger brother, spilled the
beans of where and who Noah was meeting, the emails and text they were sending. The
parents decided to surprise them and find out for themselves. And boy were they in for a shock.
Judgement day came where both of them surely had to tell their parents. Both their families
kicked them out. Vihaan’s mother left crying.

1
Act 1
Narrator reads: “Love is blind despite the world's attempt to give it eyes.” ―Matshona Dhliwayo

At the college, Vihaan is reading Jane Austen (Persuasion) and Noah was practicing her lines. Everyone
is busy with their stuff.
NOAH: “His pleasure in the walk must arise from the exercise and the day, from the view of the last smiles of
the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges, and from repeating to himself some few of the thousand
poetical descriptions extant of autumn--that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste
and tenderness--that season which has drawn from every poet worthy of being read some attempt at
description, or some lines of feeling.”

VIHAAN: Hey, excuse me,um, are you reading a line from Jane Austen’s Persuasion?

NOAH: Hey..yeah how did you know?

VIHAAN: I am actually reading it now. Chapter 5: Where Anne talks about Captain Fredrick Oh I absolutely
love that part. How she express his smile? So poetic.

NOAH: Yessss, finally someone who loves this book! I’m Noah by the way. Noah Wither.

VIHAAN: I’m Vihaan. Vihaan Jayasegeran. Nice to meet you.

NOAH: It’s nice to meet you too.

VIHAAN: Training to become an actor I see?

NOAH: Hahaha. Yeah, this is for my audition for a Broadway show next autumn.

VIHAAN: Wow! You really dream big.

NOAH: And what is that suppose to mean now eh?

VIHAAN: No, no I didn't mean it like that….

NOAH: I’m going to be late for my class. See yea!

VIHAAN: See..see...you around.

Act 2
Both families are staged on scene. 1 frozen while the other talks.

VIHAAN: Amma, Appa, I’m home.

2
DEVI: Finally, it took you long enough. I was worried sick. Come I’ve prepared your favourite dish. Just sit down,
relax and wait till I call you okay.

SHANKER: Look at this mess and disrespectfulness from these people! Sickening I tell you. The world is turning
bad because of their culture. I hope you do not get influenced by their culture. You should know better and stay
away.

VIHAAN: Appa, please enough with that already. I cannot explain this to you how many times. Not everyone is
bad. Okay? It’s a culture of freedom with its boundaries and sometimes people do take it out of hand. But it’s not the
world’s fault.

SHANKER: Don’t you dare raise your voice to me!

VIHAAN: Hmph, I’m going to freshen up myself before dinner.

JOHN: Noah! You’re back you can’t believe what happened to Megatron!

JULIE: Jo, leave your sister alone. She just got back. Hello sweetheart.

NOAH: Hey mom, hey lil’ bro. Mom, did any letter come for me today?

JULIE: No, sweetheart. Why?

NOAH: Oh it’s nothing.

BRUCE: Yeah, right.

ROBERT: Hello pumpkin. Fancy for some donuts?

NOAH: Love too.

JULIE: We are going to church for Bingo night. Do you want to join us?

NOAH: Nahhh, I have some work to catch up. I don’t want to eat dinner.

ROBERT: Suit yourself

*Act 3
The Bingo table.

JULIE: Oh, how I love Bingo! Hello, I’m Julie. And you are?

DEVI: Me too. I can’t wait to win that grand price. I’m Devi.

Judge rolls cage and reads a number.

3
DEVI: BINGO! (quietly sits down after excitement)

Act 4
At the university. Vihaan and Noah were talking in the park, sitting on the bench.

VIHAAN: So, are you nervous for your audition, Miss Anne?

NOAH: Hahaha. Of course, it is a breaking point for me. It could change my career.
How about you ? With your presentation?

VIHAAN: Ahhhh, I’m well prepared for it. Just hope my coursemates do not screw up.

NOAH: Oh shoot, look at the time. I got to go. It starts in 15 minutes.

VIHAAN: Oh my. Good luck, Miss Anne. You’ll knock it out of the park. Just remember
what we have rehearsed. Okay?

NOAH: Thanks Vihaan. You’re the best!

Scene depicts of them at the sides of the stage doing their audition and presentation. Narrator speaks
through.

Act 5
In Noah’s bedroom. Noah is out. John comes in to find Noah but she is not there. He hears her laptop
‘bing’.

JOHN: What is that? (looks for people) I guess it won’t hurt to take a look. (gasps) Mooommm!
Daaaaddd!

Act 6
In the park. A band of musicians are setting up, getting ready to play.

NOAH: What did you think about my scenes? Were they good?

4
VIHAAN: It was fabulous. You are the main star of the show! Everyone saw the star quality in you.

NOAH: Awww, thanks. (sits on the bench) We need to talk about something. Our
parents. How are we going to tell them?

VIHAAN: It is alright. Don’t worry about it. Time will show us the way. He will put everything into place.

NOAH: Hmmm, but what if…

VIHAAN: We will overcome this but for now let’s enjoy the night sky.

Band starts to play. Vihaan takes her and starts to dance. (input their own line).
Meanwhile, Julie and Robert, snoped from behind watching them. Filled with rage.

ROBERT: Noah Withers, what are you doing?!

NOAH: Dad, what are you doing here?

ROBERT: You are coming home now. And you, if I ever see you around my daughter
again, you are a sliced meat.

VIHAAN: Sir, I didn….Noah!

NOAH: Vihaan!

VIHAAN: Oh no! What have I done?

Act 7
The stage is set with the 2 family houses. I frozen while the other talks.
DEVI: V, what’s wrong? Why do you look so troubled?
VIHAAN: I think I just screwed up someone’s future.
DEVI: What? Sit down. Tell me about it.

ROBERT: Noah! What are you thinking? Sneaking behind us. Dating a what african or an indian guy?!
Have we not thought you anything at all?
NOAH: Why are you being so prejudice and discriminative towards other races?
JULIE: No, we are not. We are trying to protect you.
NOAH: From what?!

VIHAAN: And then her Father came in and took her away. I couldn’t forget her face. She was scared for
her life.
SHANKER: (comes in) Who is this girl?
DEVI: Ahh, it’s nobody. Just some…

5
SHANKER: Stay out of this, Devi. I have heard enough. I told you that you are not suppose to date a
white girl. I forbid you.
VIHAAN: Love has no boundaries. She is an amazing girl with values that goes with your crazy culture.

ROBERT: Look at these emails. Captain Fredrick...Anne… secret meeting spots. What is this?
NOAH: You dare too… I can’t take this anymore.

VIHAAN & NOAH: Well guess what? I..I love her/him. I love her/him (x3). And there is nothing you
can do to separate us.

The family fight starts. Shanker beating his son and Devi standing at the side crying helplessly. Robert
starts beating and chasing her daughter away. They both leave the stage and meet up with their rucksack.

VIHAAN: I know where we can stay temporary while we solve this problem.

Act 8
A few days later, after the incident, Julie had to be at the bingo game night as she wanted to distract
herself from everything that has happened.
JULIE: Hey Devi, how has it been for you?
DEVI: Depressing. My only son was kicked out from the house. My husband is so judgemental on races
because of their culture. My son, Vihaan, was dating a white girl named Noah.
JULIE: Wait what? What did you say the girl’s name was?
DEVI: Noah. But anyway, let’s not think about it. Where’s the judge?
JULIE: No stop right there. My daughter is named Noah. And she has also been kicked out because she
was dating your son.
DEVI: What? So you are her parents who hate other races is it?
JULIE: No, we do not hate other races. We just a want a same race for our daughter. Not some scum who
will leave and divorce her. We have seen all that happen before.
DEVI: How dare you call my son, let alone my race and the other races, a scum. (leaves)

Act 9
University bench.
NOAH: I know how we can fix this problem. But it might cost a huge fight. We will have to bring our
family together and explain about us. We must set our differences aside.

VIHAAN: Good idea. Let’s call them.

Narrator takes over and explains how they are going to bring them together.

6
The family meets at the University hall (or something like that)

SHANKER and ROBERT: What are you doing here?

VIHAAN: Alright everyone, calm down. The reason why we called you here is to straighten this once and
for all.

SHANKER: Why? You choose the life that you want. I’ve had enough. Come on Devi, let’s go back.

NOAH: Listen. Neither of us wants to end it this way. But because of both of your disgusting
requirements, this happened.

VIHAAN: You did not take a chance to see who she is or even who am I. What I am made of. (Robert
tries to talk) Wait a minute. Let us finish, please.

NOAH: Love is not judged by the colour of your skin pigment.

VIHAAN: If you keep judging others, you will never find the time to understand and love them.

DEVI: That’s right. No one can understand their love for each other but what can we do as parents, is to
support them as they carry out their journey with their own decisions.

JULIE: Well, I guess we’ve been a bit too harsh on them. It’s time to let them live their lives.
