Lesson Idea Name: The Moon

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): Kindergarten
Content Standard Addressed: SKE1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate observations about time patterns
(day to night and night to day) and objects (sun, moon, stars) in the day and night sky.

Technology Standard Addressed: 3 - Knowledge Constructor

Selected Technology Tool:

☒Movie (list application): iMovie
☐Audio (list application):
☐Other: (list)
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☐Remembering ☐Understanding ☐Applying ☐Analyzing ☐Evaluating ☒Creating

Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level):

☐Level 1: Awareness ☐Level 2: Exploration ☐Level 3: Infusion ☐Level 4: Integration
☐ Level 5: Expansion ☒ Level 6: Refinement

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): I would have subtitles on the movie for the students who cannot hear or
are hard of hearing. I would also pair students who have a disability with students who do not have a
disability. For example a deaf student with a hearing student. That way the hearing student can help the deaf
student with the music part.
Lesson idea implementation: I would show the video that I created about the moon. I would explain how I
created it and then I would create groups and let the children make their own videos. I would allow the
children to choose from a list of approved topics I have chosen. Then they would post their video on the class
website so that other people, like their parents could view the movies.
I would introduce this topic whenever we started talking about the day and night sky. I would show the video
and have the students be able to work on it for a month or so. I will conclude the lesson by having a movie
day and we would show all of the movies that the students created. I would give them feedback when they
showed their movie. It would be did you create a video with all of the components? Yes or no?
Importance of technology: This project can not be done without technology. Without technology, the
children would not be able to make the video or share it on the class website/blog. The children will be using
the website discoveryeducation.com, google for images, and the iMovie app which can be downloaded on
iPhones or iPads.
Inspiration (optional): I go part of my video from discoveryeducation.com. I got the pictures from a google
image search. I got the music from iMovies.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: I would minimize the risks to myself by making sure that the websites I
used with my students didn't have an age restriction. I would minimize the risks to the students by not
allowing them to post anything on the blog or class website that included their full name, address, email,
school, or age. I would alleviate fears of parents/administrators by making sure they knew I took the student's
safety seriously. I would have the parents okay the websites I would use in class.
Reflective Practice: I think that this activity is a great way for students to start learning the iMovie technology.
The app is very easy to use and after a couple tries, children could probably do it on their own.
