We are an international nonprofit seeking to

inspire, educate, and equip girls with the
computing skills to pursue 21st century
opportunities. Girls Who Code has served
over 185,000 students across the U.S. and
Canada since launching in 2012. Our alumni
major in Computer Science and related fields
at a rate 15 times higher than the national
average. Half of the girls we have served are
from historically underrepresented groups.

HOW DOES GIRLS WHO CODE AM I READY TO START A CLUB?

GIRLS WHO CODE
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

Girls Who Code Clubs teach more than code. Our curriculum
for 3-5th grade and 6-12th grade girls focus on the following
three components:

SISTERHOOD CODE BRAVERY & IMPACT

Clubs provide girls with a safe
and supportive learning
environment. With the support
of their peers and role models,
girls learn to see themselves as
computer scientists. Beyond
their Club experience, girls
become a part of our growing
alumni network.
Club girls learn the essential
concepts of loops, variables,
conditionals, and functions that
form the basis for all
programming languages
—whether they want to build a
website, an app, or a robot.
Through fun and interactive
curricula, Club girls not only
learn about how to positively
impact their community
through code, but they also
are taught to be brave and
resilient to help them persist
in the field.

3-5TH 6-12TH ALUMNI

3-5TH GRADE CLUBS OVERVIEW: 6-12TH GRADE CLUBS OVERVIEW:

Girls in our elementary school Clubs
learn basic computer science concepts
in a fun and creative way.
Each meeting begins with girls reading
together from one of our best-selling
books followed by discussion and a
thematically-related creative challenge
that can be done on a computer or
entirely offline.
Our middle and high school Club curriculum focuses
on a culminating Girls Who Code Project, where girls
work in teams to use their coding skills and bravery to
solve a real world problem they care about.
In each 6-12th grade Girls Who Code Club meeting,
girls build community through interactive activities,
learn about inspiring role models, and engage in fun
and simple self-guided coding tutorials that range
from beginner to advanced in Scratch, Python,
JavaScript, and Thunkable.
