Clinic and Tryout Dates and Times

Clinic Day 1: May 7 @ 4:00-5:30 pm
Clinic Day 2: May 8 @ 4:00-5:30 pm
Tryout Day: May 10 @ 4:00-TBD

Dear Parents or Guardians,

Your child has shown an interest in the dance team at Evans Junior High School. Try out dates
and times were listed on the previous page. All candidates are required to attend the scheduled
clinics. Please make sure dancers wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes or dance shoes. Hair
should be out of their face or pulled back.

On the first day of clinics parents may drop off the student to help check in but will need to leave
until the end time. Absolutely NO spectators are allowed during clinics or tryouts.

The dancers will learn 3 mini-routines over the two clinic days and be taught specific dance skills
that will be judged and scored during tryouts. Tryout scores will be based on dancing skills,
facials, memory, technique, overall appearance, communication, projection and enthusiasm.
They will also be asked to perform specific skills such as a toe touch, leaps, and pirouettes. Part
of the final score will also be teacher evaluations, in order to judge dependability and character
for each candidate. Each student MUST get 3 teacher evaluation forms completed and turned in
by the first day of tryouts. These are attached in the packet.

Students will need to have the enclosed permission slip signed in order to participate in clinics.

 If parents have questions for Coach Magnus regarding clinics or the results of tryouts, she
will ONLY respond to ones that are respectful. Disrespectful phone calls or emails will be
directly forwarded to our Athletic Director Chris McGraw. Any emails must be sent 24
hours after tryouts are over. Emails sent prior to that time will not be responded to.

 Important Information about the
Dance Team
 The dance team is expensive. Summer camp/dance camp will be a requirement for
dancers to pay for and can range from $50-$150 and uniforms/apparel can be from
$200-$400. We will also have team meals and miscellaneous expenses as the season
progresses. There will be at least one fundraiser to help offset the cost of dance, but
will not be until the fall. With this money, some of the materials bought may be saved
for the EJHS Dance Team for the years following.

 The dance team is a huge time commitment. Our season begins after tryouts with some
summer practices and will end around early February. Practices, games and
competitions are mandatory with the exception of excused illness.

 Academics are the first priority. Students must maintain eligibility to participate in
performances. Character is also important. There will be one warning for behavior
related issues (this warning includes a parent contact). If issues persist removal from the
team will be considered.

 Dance camp will be held in August. Dates are not yet set.

 In the past we have done 2-3 competitions after both basketball seasons have
ended. Competitions are scheduled Saturday and take up most of the day. These begin
around December.

 Students are allowed to do multiple sports at the Junior High level; however, with time
commitments, it is difficult for participants on the dance team to be involved in other
sports. Please consider this as you and your child are making a decision.

 Many of the dancers on the team are also involved in outside dance classes. I will do my
best to work with those schedules, but it can be difficult to work around
everyone. Because of this, there will also be practices in the mornings/before school
that the dancers will be required to be at.

To participate in clinics and tryouts, the candidates must turn in a signed copy of this permission
slip at the clinic on Tuesday, May 7 at 4:00pm. The dance team candidate will not be allowed to
participate without it.
