Jackson warned that the nation had been corrupted by

"SPECIAL PRIVILEGE," characterized especially by the policies
of the Second Bank of the United States. The proper road to
reform, according to Jackson, lay in an absolute acceptance
of majority rule as expressed through the democratic
process.

“...I am a true friend and I tell you that you cannot stay where
you are. You must move west and join other Native Americans.
The sooner you do this, the sooner your lives will improve.
Some of your brothers have come to Washington, D.C. They
hope to make a good treaty that will please everyone. They have
come up with a plan.
The U.S. Senate and your leaders agreed on how much money
you will get. The treaty will protect your private rights. It will
help your poorer people. It will set you up to be happy and rich.
The United States has given you good farming land with good
weather….

“We are not changing the Government's actions much. We
are just using a nicer plan now. The tribes which occupied
the land now that is now the Eastern States were killed or
have gone away. This has made room for the whites to move
in. The waves of population and civilization are rolling to the
west. We should gain the land occupied by the Indians of the
South and West through a fair trade. It will be paid for by the
United States. We should send the Indians to a land where
they may live a long time. Perhaps their people will live there
forever...And is it true that the wandering Indian is more
attached to his home than the settled, civilized Christian? Is
it harder for him to leave the graves of his fathers than it is
for our brothers and children to do? Rightly considered, the
policy of the National Government toward the Indian is not
only fair, but generous. He is unwilling to obey the laws of
the States. He does not want to get along with their
population. To save him from this alternative, or perhaps
complete destruction, the National Government kindly offers
him a new home. It proposes to pay the whole cost of his
leaving and relocating.”
