Two Schools
Working Together,
Making our School
Updated
Cramped spaces made working in Central ~--·,
Office difficult this year, so second semester,
the school district contacted Building Trades
at the Dallas County Career Center to have
them add more room to the office. We had the
opportunity to interview the two Foremen, Jared
Hogue (Buffalo) and Baylor Ethridge (Skyline), to get P1dure Bv: Kohe h11neor
information on the project.
As Foremen, it was their responsibility to gather Mr. Yates lends a helping hand to
figures for floor joists, rafters, concrete, and various one of the students.
other aspects of the job. According to Jared and Baylor,
the new addition will be approximately 450 square feet
(16 x 28) and will include a corner table, closets for
storage, and two 4-foot windows.
Baylor recalls, ·Getting started was the hardest
part:· After finding the most cost-efficient materials
and prepping for the job, the first step to building was
to dig out and level the ground. During this process,
they realized in order to match up the studs they had to
cut out a piece of the existing wall and roof. Once this
was done, they had to set up 36 x 8 inch forms for the
concrete foundation, the footings (foundation for
walls), and pillars (which support floor joists).
The next steps included finishing the walls, floor,
and roof; after this, they made everything ·pretty" by
putting on vinyl siding, building the corner tables, and
installing the windows with air vents underneath. The
office was tentatively scheduled to be completed
before graduation on May 13th so that the two foremen
could manage the entire job.

The mo • g of November 11th
several war veterans put their hand
over their heart and stood 11 and
proud. They all stared at the red, white,
and blue d remembered for what they
fought. As they all came in, they were
greeted by many students who
appreciated what they sacrificed in the
line of duty. The students heard many
stories as each veteran walked through
the doors.
After eating breakfast, the veterans
were escorted to their seats. The room
was filled with the sound of clapping
and cheering as each one came through
the entrance. Many speeches were told
and the room was quiet. Kalla Todd
walked to the podium and began her
speech "Does my Generation Have a Role
in the Future of America?"
Everybody was left pondering Kalla's
call for change, • Are you prepared to
shake the botde of America?" After the
assembly the veterans raised and
uted our flag tha s for our
great country and the freedom for
which they fought.

Spirit week was schedule
for February 7th to February 11th. The
Courtwarming Dance was scheduled
for the 12th. As we all know, the
Blizzard of 2011 moved into Buffalo
january 31st. During the storm we
received around 2 feet of snow at the
school. We were out of school from the
1st to the 11th, which caused
everything to be pushed back. The
spirit week was canceled and replaced
with a single spirit day and the dance
was moved to Friday, February 25.
Though the turn-out to the dance was
nowhere near the turn out at the
Homecoming Dance, it was a great and
eventful night. As the pictures show
everyone seemed to have fun and the
seniors definitely enjoyed
their last courtwarming.
