Mrs J Challita DGL 02/2128
Dear Mrs Challita
| refer to your fetter received by the Director-General of Education and Training on 26
November 2002 concerning your apallcation for Year 7 entry to a selective high school
on behalf of your son, Danny and your daughter, Katie, The Director-General has
requested that | respond on her behalf.
Your request under the Freedom of Information Act has been forwarded to the
Department of Education and Training FO! Unit and they will respond in due course.
However, | would like to reassure you that all selection committees and appeals panels
are carefully monitored to ensure that all decisions comply with the published criteria.
‘Your appeal did not result in an adjustment 10 your children’s scores as they had
already been adjusted by the selection committee in response to information supplied
at your request by the Sutherland District Office. Prafile scores required for opportunity
class and Selective high school entry vary and there is no guarantee that a student from
an opportunity class will be successful for selective high school entry.
Although your chitdren have IQs which classify them as gifted, they are competing
against a similarly gifted candidature and all placement decisions have to be made in
the context of the each student's academic merit relative to al} other candidates.
Ihave looked at your case very carefully and | am convinced that both the selection
‘committee and the appeals panel considered the applications for both of your children
very thoroughly and used the extensive information available to them to reach their
decisions. | am completely satisfied that all decisions relating to your applications havo
been determined according to the published criteria and thet no further action should
be taken in this matter.
Yours sincerely
Robyn MecKerihan
