Q13 Please comment on the teacher candidate's overall performance in the area of professional knowledge.

Ms. Szczur did was very proficient is bringing content knowledge to students through direct instruction as well as during independent
practice. She was knowledgeable and shared this with students as they sought her assistance during independent or small group
practice. The students were comfortable enough with her to seek her out and ask for assistance or clarification just as much as they
would ask me.

Q15 Please comment on the teacher candidate's overall effectiveness of instructional planning.

Ms. Szczur's lessons were always closely aligned with the VBCPS curriculum as well as the applicable SOLs. She mastered this quite
easily early on in her student teaching experience. Ms. Szczur was able to plan lessons that were developmentally appropriate and she
was able to reflect on students' learning and many of the students' individual needs as she planned lessons and delivered instruction.
During our conversations during planning, she was very aware of different students and their individual needs, which I was impressed
with considering she was teaching 98 students. She quickly got to know students and was able to consider their different learning
styles, of individuals as well as entire classes. Two of the social studies classes she taught were inclusion classes, and she really did do
a good job at planning for these classes, reflecting on her practice and responding to diverse needs.

Q17 Please comment on the teacher candidate's overall effectiveness of instructional delivery.

Ms. Szczur planned engaging lessons that incorporated many different learning styles. She also managed the class length very well,
which is challenging with blocks that are nearly two hours long. She was able to keep students engaged, keep the content and activities
going and transition between activities. She incorporated many of the instructional activities that I use to maintain consistency with the
students, but she was able to adjust lessons and activities in ways she thought would be effective for different learners.

Q19 Please comment on the teacher candidate's performance in the area of assessment of and for student learning.

We used quite a few different formative assessments during Ms. Szczur's student teaching experience. I do believe that this was a
wonderful learning experience and practice for Ms. Szczur. Our classes do have an SOL at the end of the year, so pacing is extremely
important. Ms. Szczur was able to plan for instruction as well as assessment and keep us on the pacing guide. As stated above, we
used many different forms of formative assessments. Our department does use common unit assessments for summative assessments,
so we were able to use these to really look at how students performed over the course of a unit.

Q21 Please comment on the teacher candidate's overall effectiveness in creating an environment conducive to
learning.

Ms. Szczur really did do an excellent job of building relationships with the students. I know that this had a positive impact on her ability
to instruct and to keep the students on task and engaged. She was able to respond appropriately to students' needs, both social
emotional as well as learning. She did well with redirecting students when needed to keep the flow of instruction going as well as when
to speak to them regarding inappropriate or off task behaviors.

professional interactions.
Demonstrates effective communication and collaboration with Superior
teachers and other school personnel.
Fosters trust in all school relationships through fair and ethical Exemplary
interactions.

Q23 Please comment on the teacher candidate's professionalism throughout the period of observation.

Ms. Szczur was very open to discussing her practice and listening to advice regarding everything, including planning, instructional
delivery and responding to students' needs. She shared her thoughts regarding learning styles and differences as well as behavioral
needs that we both recognized in some students. She interacted very professionally with other grade level teachers that we met with
regularly. She always took initiative in planning lessons and using formative assessments to plan lessons. When Ms. Szczur first arrived
we were wrapping up a unit and we were in the second week of a new unit when she left, so during her student teaching experience
she was able to teach an entire unit in its entirety. I do believe this experience was very beneficial as she got to see the students
acquire knowledge through lessons she planned as well as assessing the unit as she progressed through it.

Q24 Using the following scale, please rate the teacher candidate's performance in each of the areas below.

Documents the progress of each student throughout the Proficient

placement.
Provides evidence that achievement goals have been met. Proficient
Uses available data to document/communicate student progress Superior
and develop learning targets.

Q25 Please comment on the students academic progress throughout the period of observation.

I do believe that with more time to actually begin and teach units in their entirety, Ms. Szczur would truly develop into the superior rating
on this standard. The time frame that she was teaching just didn't allow for the progression through more than one entire unit. As I
stated in another comment section, we were finishing a unit when Ms. Szczur started and we'd just begun another one when she left.
The unit that she covered from start to finish probably wasn't enough to move her out of the proficient rating in this standard, but she did
do a wonderful job at documenting progress and using data, so obviously she would continue to grow in this area with more practice.
She really was very intuitive with many of the students' individual needs and identifying strengths and weaknesses during the brief
period of time that she was with us.
