School of Communications Department of Strategic, Legal and Management Communication Internship Site Supervision
Week of : 2/18- 2/22, 2019
Responsibilities: Assist in the set up, including setting the room and adding insight into presentation visuals, and drafting social media promotion of the BLACK IN TECH: THE HIGHS AND LOWS - A BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENT and LOVE TRAVELS: ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND MILITARY SPOUSES at the Washington D.C. campus of General Assembly. Comments/Reflections: A lot of putting smaller campus events on like this one consists of actually mingling and entertaining the attendees as well, not solely the promotion and the set up. Also finding the best wording for engagement with education centered organizations on social media is considerably more difficult than constructing an engaging tweet for entertainment centered organizations like I am used to. The marketing team also told me that the events I will work will slow down in the beginning of March.
Week of: 2/25- 3/01, 2019
Responsibilities: Assist in the content and design of weekly Admissions team shoutouts, assist in the setting of the room and handing out flyers and documents at the FIND WORK THAT MATTERS General Assembly D.C. campus event. Comments/Reflections: Looking over the comments for the Admissions team and deciding which good ones to use assisted me in my own technique as an Admissions Counselor. It also helped me with giving feedback to the marketing team about what the students want.
Week of 3/04-3/08, 2019
Responsibilities: Assist in drafting tweets for the General Assembly DC twitter account, and assist in the content and design of weekly Admissions team shoutouts. Comments/Reflections: I’m getting a little better at drafting General Assembly’s language, I wish they could update their use of hashtags but they find it useful.
Week of 3/18 - 3/22, 2019
Responsibilities: Assist in drafting a goodbye announcement for my supervisor in my Admissions team position, Allison Cresswell, and assist in planning and promoting next week’s event with the marketing team. Comments/Reflections: It was a bittersweet moment to draft a goodbye version of our weekly announcements, but I also enjoyed trying to capture the feelings of the entire Admissions team in one big message for her. Also this week I got to see a bit of the earlier process of running an event at General Assembly, including email outreach and choosing catering and interior design options.
Week of 3/25 - 3/29, 2019
Responsibilities: Assist in the set up, including setting the room and adding insight into presentation visuals, and drafting social media promotion of the BUILDING BRANDS PEOPLE LOVE: FOOD EDITION event on the Washington D.C. campus of General Assembly. Assist in the creation and design of Admissions team announcements slideshow. Comments/Reflections: This week was really busy with corresponding with various departments to finalize the new changes for the Admissions team to include in the presentation, assisting with the event, and making my target goals for my admissions position as well.
Week of 4/1 - 4/5, 2019
Responsibilities: Assist in the creation of the April Admissions team contest rules and the planning of the TALK TO ME: CELL PHONES — A MILLENNIAL MYTH OR PASSING TREND? PANEL DISCUSSION at the Washington D.C campus of General Assembly. Comments/Reflections: We had to change the event date to Wednesday because someone dated it wrong at first. Last minute changes always make things a little more complicated, but it is great preparation for the future.
Week of 4/8 - 4/12, 2019
Responsibilities: Assist in finding relevant articles for the marketing team to use on Twitter, assist them in their drafting of the tweets, and assist in keeping up with contest standings for the admissions team. Comments/Reflections: I learned many specialized skills about working in an office while working at General Assembly, I learned tech jargon and how to navigate “techie’ millennial spaces. I learned what General Assembly’s audience looks for, and to provide it to them before asking.
