EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION

Christ is Risen! ALLELUIA!!

This is the Good News, the WONDERFUL

news that we announce as Christians in the
last two millenia!

It’s a good news for the women and

disciples who first heard it and saw Jesus for
themselves: their Lord, teacher and master,
the one they have followed faithfully for
three years and grew to admire and respect,
is no longer dead but is fully alive! Imagine
the joy they felt in being able to once again
embrace the One that they loved – it’s a
wonderful thing indeed!
It’s also good news for them because it
means that everything that Jesus had taught
was true, He wasn’t lying to them. They
didn’t place their faith in some fake
impostor; their sacrifice of leaving
everything behind had not been in vain: this
guy is the real deal, the true Son of God.
And it’s good news for all of us, because
Jesus’ rising from the dead means that Death
doesn’t have the last word, it is not the end,
and we are not doomed to simply disappear
once we breathe out our last breath. Our
God is a god who has power even over
Death. He is the God of LIFE, and this is a
REALLY good news!
Most of us have questioned God’s goodness
and love at one point or another of our lives.
We wonder, “If God exists, why won’t He do
something about all the terrible things
happening in the world, all these pain and
sufferings?” Or perhaps, even more
existentially, we cry out in moments of
depair, “Where are you God when I am
hurting most, and need you more than ever?”
God is everywhere and He IS very much
present with us and loving us even in those
dark places in our lives, but if we struggle to
see His invisible presence there (precisely
because it is invisible!), then perhaps we can
perceive Him easier elsewhere. Just as the
angels said to the women at the tomb, “Why
look among the dead for someone who is
alive?”
Christ is risen, and God is alive – look for
Him in those places where we find Life, not
death! A kind word. A gentle touch. An
enlightening or enjoyable conversation with
another person. A simple smile. A bright
sunny day, or the soothing sound of rain.
Someone’s inspiring story. A helping hand.
The smallest things we take for granted –
food, shelter, health. The trees and flowers
and beutifully painted sunsets. Those
moments where we found strength, joy,
love, comfort, hope... is God not loving us
there, through all of these?
May we experience the joy of the finding this
living God in our lives and be able to exclaim
with all our heart like the first disciples:
CHRIST IS RISEN! ALLELUIA!

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR
ADULTS (RCIA)
Congratulations to Valdemar on receiving
the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Easter
Vigil Mass this year! Let us continue to pray
for him in his journey of faith.
FIRST COMMUNION PROGRAMME and
SUNDAY MORNING R.E. CLASSES
The Celebration of First Holy
Communion will take place
on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May
at 2:00pm.
There will be rehearsal for all children and
parents on Wednesday, 1st May
at 4pm (for the 4th May group)
or 4.45pm (for the 5th May group).
We ask parents to ensure their children are
on time, both for the rehearsal and the
actual day of celebration.
Last Session: Sat, 11th May 10am.
Sending Out Mass: Sun, 12th May at 2pm,
followed by party in Hume Hall.
CONFIRMATION PROGRAMME
Next session: Sat, 27th April at 3:30pm
+ Mass at 6pm
The celebration of Confirmation will take
place on Saturday 11th May at 6pm with
Bishop John Sherrington.There will be a
rehearsal for all candidates and their
sponsors on Friday 3rd May 2019 at 5pm
in the Church.
BAPTISM FOR INFANTS
If you would like to have your child
baptised on the 11th May or later, the next
session will be on Monday, 6th May at
7.30pm in the Parish Hall.

to book your place on the course.
CAMINO DE SANTIAGO PILGRIMAGE
Next meeting: Today, Sunday, 28th April at
10am in the hall.
This will be our LAST meeting before the
pilgrimage, so please do attend.

EASTER CONCERT: “TIME TO RISE”
The Verbum Dei missionaries and friends
would like to invite everyone for an
afternoon of prayer through music and art
in an Easter concert on Sunday, 19th May at
2pm in St. John Vianney church, followed by
light refreshment in the hall afterwards.
Suggested donation: £5/person. All proceed
of this fundraising event will support young
adults on an 8-day walking pilgrimage (from
Rome to Assisi) and mission immersion
experience with street children in the

evening of practical suggestions for how
your parish can respond to the
