Sugar Lab Report


-Reflection
Do you like to eat chocolate bars, all kind of desert, or banana? These foods are
all containing sugars. This lap is about compare the amount of sugar in different
product. We were separate in groups. My group members were Pai and Jedi. We
measured sugar containing per container of 12 different product and observe how
different of its amount of sugar in each product. Also, calculate how many time we
need to consume to reach 2000 calories and identify is it healthy or unhealthy. In the
lab, there are 4 stations. We measured 3 products in each station. We decided each
member job, each member has different job; Pai and me measuring the sugar and
taking a photo and Jedi calculate how many time we need to consume to reach 2000
calories. As I done this lap, I noticed that in one product that we eat in our daily life
contain large amount of sugar more than I predict. Even I usually read the nutrition
label, I still surprise when I saw the actual amount of it. Why we must concern with
the amount of sugar in the food? Sugar is a form of carbohydrate that contain sweet
flavor. Sugar are used in many kinds of food. Most people around the world love
sweet food or drink. For instance, a famous drink in Thailand like bubble tea contain
large amount of sugar. Most consumer don’t notice about the amount of sugar contain
in the product. With exceed amount of sugar, it can lead to many diseases such as
diabetes. Also, it increases heart disease risk factors including high blood pressure and
obesity etc. Therefore, your body still need sugar. Sugar is essential for your body to
create energy to survive. Based on a 2000 calories diet, you need to consume less than
6 teaspoons of sugar per day (4 grams = .1 teaspoon). As I mentioned above, we must
start to recognize the amount of sugar contain in food to keep your body stay healthy
and sugar will not harm your health if you consume in the recommended amount.

-Which product that surprise you the most why?


Ichitan green tea surprise me the most. You may question that why Oreo and
M&M didn’t surprise me. Both Oreo and M&M are in large package and I already
know that both snack contain large amount of sugar. But for a bottle of tea, I didn’t
expect it will contain that much. Also, it’s flavor doesn’t taste that much sweet. I can
drink all of the bottle in few hours even minutes! In the past, I was most likely choose
this kind of green tea to drink if I want to drink something a little bit sweet instead of
soda, because I don’t like to drink soda. So, I learned that even the product doesn’t
taste very sweet, it might contain large amount of sugar.
