Basic Competence:
Produce simple expressions that cover base language function
Indicators:
Expressions of showing regret, apology, sympathy, and feeling.
The Instructional Objectives:
The students can be able to express the expressions of showing regret, apology,
sympathy, and feeling.

Character Building:

 The development of students’ characters through habit: religious,


tolerance, and discipline.
 The development of students’ characters through teaching and learning
process: team work and responsible.

Warm-Up Questions:

 Did you ever do a fault or mistake to someone in your life?


 What did you say if you did the mistake?
 Did you even get an accident? Or did you ever listen your colleagues get
trouble condition?

 Words and expressions used to express regrets and apology:
Expressing regret is an expression that is used to express a regret.
Meanwhile, expressing apology is an expression that is expressed when we made
a fault or mistake. The expressions are:
o I regret not having done my homework

o Please accept my apology for …
o I apologize for …
o Forgive me. I’m terribly sorry about…

 Words and expression used to respond regrets and apology:

Randy : Yes, thank you. I just want to apologize for the incident last night.
Cindy : Please don’t mention it. It doesn’t matter.
Randy : But I broke a decorating pitcher in your house. It must be expensive.
Wasn’t your mother angry?
Cindy : Forget it. You did it accidentally.
Randy : Yes, but…
Cindy : Look. It’s nothing. I was a bit annoyed last night. But I’m all right
now. So, forget it.
Randy : Cindy, let me buy another pitcher.

 Words and expressions used to express sympathy


Expressing sympathy is an expression or feeling of pity and sorrow when
we know and see someone or people are unlucky or have trouble in bad condition.
By expressing sympathy we want to show our concern of carefulness or other
people’s condition. The expressions are:
o I’m sorry to hear that. o My deepest sympathy for your

Speaking performance orally
The students with their member of each group are asked to perform speaking orally based
on the dialogue made with their partner. The topic of the dialogue is expressing of feeling, regret,
apology and sympathy. The students’ performance will be evaluated in terms of pronunciation,
grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension as shown the following table:
