Teaching Practice Task 2 – Monitoring the Learning

Program link: This task is associated to the guidelines of the course EPR 3023 – Teaching Methods for
the Primary School Teacher (Course learning outcomes 4 – Plan and implement appropriate modes of
assessment for primary mathematics teaching and learning)

Objective: Describe how you monitored the learning when the students were working on their
activities and identify the tools used to record your data. For each lesson you teach, you will describe
the tool that you use to monitor the work of the children. In the second column, you will describe how
you used that tool and you will reflect on how useful it was.

Grade Level: 1/A MST Name: Milica

For each Tools used to monitor the Explain why you used that tool and reflect on
lesson learning (rubric, notes, how successful it was
taught chart…)

1 In the first lesson, I choose Observing is the best way to monitor your
to Observe my student student while they are working, because as a
Lesson 1
and take notes, to know student teacher you should to see how your
them more and to see if student doing while they are working, check if
they understand the lesson they get the lesson, take notes, figure out how
from me as it was my first the low-level student is doing, check how is your
time I teach them. student thinking
Observing was really great way, and the notes
that I take helps me to prepare for the other
lesson according to the student notes that I
have wrote its also gives me valuable
information about students' progress,
understanding, strengths and challenges,
cooperation, study habits, and attitude.

2 After using observation and As students work on an assignment that I gave

knowing student more I them, I start to ask individuals questions
Lesson 2
decide to use relating to their work.
Questioning, I use this I start to sit down with student in small groups
way to assess student and ask them to give me a connection between
understanding of the lesson the question and the real life, in addition and
concept. subtraction, let the them draw a picture of an
addition or subtraction problem and then let
them tell me about it, how they know the
answer are correct, or if they can think of a
different way that applies to addition or
subtraction.

1
This way helps me to see the students mind,
because some of the student you teach them a
way but they have a different way that are from
their own way and easy to them more than
yours, this is ok tell I know this way is correct
and work very well to the lesson concept.

3 Self-assessment, I used At the end of the lesson or the activity I use

this way to let the student thumps up strategy, this strategy helps me to
Lesson 3
asses them self. know who understand and helps the student to
feel confident and raise their thumps up or
down or in the middle to show the teacher if
they get the lesson or not.
Also, I use a different strategy that at the end of
each worksheet there is question that ask the
student what they learned from the activity.
So, this way show the teacher what the student
learned from the work that they have done.

4 Entrance and Exit At the beginning of each lesson my MST give

Tickets the student an entrance tickets, this ticket has a
Lesson 4
review questions from the last lesson, the MST
gives the student 2 to 3 min to solve the
question and then she takes it from them, also
at the end of the lesson the student get the exit
tickets to check their understanding of the
lesson before they leave the class.
This strategy give the teacher a clear picture of
each student’s level of understanding, as well as
where his or her understanding may have been
altered.

5 Lesson 5 Summarizing / Ask The teacher use this way by asking the student
students to reflect to come in the front of the class or in there
group student share to each other what they
have learned and summarize what they have
learned, by show how they solve the question
or how they figure out the different between
tens and ones,etc.
and the teacher listen to the student
summarization

2
6 Lesson 6 One question quiz The teacher use this strategy at the end of the
lesson or the beginning of the lesson, give the
student a question in the begging of the lesson
to check their understanding and if they review
in home the previous lesson, or teacher can give
the student the question immediately at the
end of the lesson to check their understanding
of the lesson, by the student answer the
teacher will know who get the lesson and how
to improve or re-teach the lesson again in the
next lesson.

7 Lesson 7 KWL The teacher gives the student a paper with table
include 3 letters, K (What I know), W (What I
want to know), L (What I learned).
This chart help the teacher to check the student
prior knowledge, teacher can choose some
students to say what they want to learn and
after she finish explaining the lesson she can
choose different students to say what they have
learned to get an idea about what the student
get from today lesson.
